Abstract

We analyze the role of the dipole-dipole interaction between point-like impurity centers inside a Fabry-Perot microcavity on its radiative characteristics. The spontaneous decay dynamics is calculated and cooperative effects are analyzed. The results are compared with the case of absence of the cavity and the difference is discussed.

Microscopic theory of dipole–dipole interaction in ensembles of impurity atoms in a Fabry–Perot cavity

A. S. Kuraptsev, Igor M. Sokolov

We develop a consistent quantum theory of the collective effects that take place when electromagnetic radiation interacts with a dense ensemble of impurity centers embedded in a transparent dielectric and placed in a Fabry–Perot cavity. We have calculated the spontaneous decay dynamics of an excited impurity atom as a specific example of applying the developed general theory. We analyze the dependence of the decay rate on the density of impurity centers and the sample sizes as well as on the characteristic level shifts of impurity atoms caused by the internal fields of the dielectric. We show that a cavity can affect significantly the pattern of collective processes, in particular, the lifetimes of collective states.

Cooperative properties of an atomic cluster in a charged Fabry-Perot microcavity

A. S. Kuraptsev, Igor M. Sokolov

We study the cooperative spontaneous decay and cooperative Lamb shift caused by the dipole-dipole interatomic interaction in an atomic cluster located in a Fabry-Perot microcavity with charged mirrors. The results are compared with the case when the mirrors are not charged as well as with the case of absence of the cavity, and the differences are discussed.

Light trapping in an ensemble of pointlike impurity centers in a Fabry-Perot cavity

A. S. Kuraptsev, Igor M. Sokolov

We report the development of quantum microscopic theory of quasiresonant dipole-dipole interaction in the ensembles of impurity atoms imbedded into transparent dielectric and located in a Fabry-Perot cavity. On the basis of the general approach we study the simultaneous influence of the cavity and resonant dipole-dipole interaction on the shape of the line of atomic transition as well as on light trapping in dense impurity ensembles. We analyze this influence depending on the size of the ensemble, its density, as well as on rms deviation of the transition frequency shifts caused by the symmetry disturbance of the internal fields of the dielectric medium. Obtained results are compared with the case when the cavity is absent. We show that the cavity can essentially modify cooperative polyatomic effects.

Peculiarities of excitation trapping in dense polyatomic ensemble in a Fabry-Perot cavity

A. S. Kuraptsev, Igor M. Sokolov

We report the investigation of the peculiarities of excitation trapping caused by the cooperative effects in a disordered ensemble of point-like impurity centers (atoms) embedded in a transparent dielectric and located in a Fabry-Perot cavity. On the basis of the general quantum microscopic theory we have calculated cooperative spontaneous decay of an excited atom located in the center of a sample. It is shown that in the case when the distance between the mirrors of a cavity d is less or comparable with resonant wavelength of the atomic transition λ 0 , the character of cooperative effects in a cavity essentially differs from one without a cavity. For the opposite case d ≫ λ 0 cooperative effects in a cavity manifest themselves almost like in the case of absence of a cavity.

A. S. Kuraptsev, Igor M. Sokolov, К. А. Баранцев +2 more

Abstract Features of interatomic dipole–dipole interaction within an ensemble of impurity atoms embedded in a transparent dielectric and inserted into a Fabry–Perot cavity are investigated. The effect an electrostatic field has on the cooperative characteristics of the atomic ensemble is analyzed.

The features of collective level shift and line broadening in a fabry-perot microcavity and near the conducting surface

A. S. Kuraptsev, Igor M. Sokolov

On the basis of consequent microscopic quantum approach we calculate collective level shifts and line broadening in the polyatomic ensemble located in the Fabry-Perot cavity or near the conducting surface. We show that the cavity or the surface can essentially modify dipole-dipole interaction and consequently spectral properties of studied impurity ensembles. This modification is explained by the peculiarities of the structure of modes of electromagnetic field in these cases.
