Abstract

We report on coherent nonlinear effects with a single organic molecule placed at the tight focus of two near-resonant laser beams. Efficient photon-molecule coupling allows switching a laser beam by a handful of photons.

Nonlinear Optics with Single Molecules

We report on four-wave mixing in a single organic molecule placed at the tight focus of two near resonant laser beams. By directly monitoring the intensity of a weak probe beam after the interaction with the molecule, we observe a rich set of resonance profiles in excellent agreement with theory. <!--EndFragment-->

Turning an Organic Molecule into a Coherent Two-Level Quantum System using a Tunable Fabry-Perot Microcavity

By coupling an organic molecule to a Fabry-Perot microcavity, we turn it into a coherent two-level quantum system. We further demonstrate efficient interaction of this system with single photons generated by a second molecule.
