Abstract

Abstract Polarized Autler–Townes (AT) splitting of six-wave mixing (SWM) involving Rydberg atoms is for the first time observed in a thermal vapor cell. By scanning the frequency detuning of the dressing field, AT splitting of Rydberg SWM is compared with that of non-Rydberg SWM with an elliptically polarized probe field. It is demonstrated that the AT spectra are strongly dependent on the interaction between Rydberg atoms. Moreover, AT splitting of SWM is cyclically modulated via a multi-dark state and presented by the corresponding spatial SWM AT splitting images. The theoretical calculations are in good agreement with the experimental results.

Polarized Suppression and Enhancement of Six-Wave Mixing in Electromagnetically Induced Transparency Window

Zhiguo Wang, Huaibin Zheng, Haixia Chen +5 more

We show that polarization properties of the suppression and enhancement as well as the Autler-Townes (AT) splitting of two coexisting six-wave mixing (SWM) processes in multi-Zeeman levels atomic system. By scanning the frequency detuning of the dressing field, we observe the suppression and enhancement as well as the AT splitting of the two coexisting SWM processes with the different polarized probe beams. Different polarization states of the probe beam can select different transitions among multi-Zeeman levels and different dressing strengths. The AT splitting separations get slightly large as the probe beam changes from the linearly polarized state to the circularly polarized one. Under the conditions of different dressing fields, the polarization dependence of the SWM enhancement and suppression shows the inverse variation. Theoretical calculations are carried out, which are in good agreement with the experimental results.

Effects of Doppler broadening on Autler-Townes splitting in six-wave mixing

Jinyan Niu, Li-Ya Pei, Xiaogang Lu +3 more

The effects of Doppler broadening on Autler-Townes (AT) splitting in six-wave mixing (SWM) are investigated by the dressed-state model. We analyze the velocities at which the atoms are in resonance with the dressed states through Doppler frequency shifting and find that, depending on the wave-number ratio, there may be two resonant velocities which can originate from resonance with one of the dressed states or from resonance with two different dressed states. Based on this model, we discuss a novel type of AT doublet in the SWM spectrum, where macroscopic effects play an important role. Specifically, the existence of resonant peaks requires polarization interference between atoms of different velocities in addition to a change in the number of resonant atoms involved. Our model can also be employed to analyze electromagnetically induced transparency resonance and other types of Doppler-free high-resolution AT spectroscopy.

Observation of Autler-Townes splitting in six-wave mixing

Yanpeng Zhang, Peiying Li, Huaibin Zheng +5 more

We report an observation of the self- and external-dressed Autler-Townes (AT) splitting in six-wave mixing (SWM) within an electromagnetically induce transparency window, which demonstrates the interaction between two coexisting SWM processes. The multi-dressed states induced by the nested interactions between many dressing fields and the five-level atomic system lead to the primary, secondary and triple AT splittings in the experiment. Such controlled multi-channel splitting of nonlinear optical signals can be used in a range of applications, e.g. the wavelength-demultiplexer in optical communication and quantum information processing.

Evidence of Autler–Townes splitting in fluorescence and six-wave mixing with multi-electromagnetically induced transparency

Gaoping Huang, Yiqi Zhang, Zhaoyang Zhang +4 more

For the first time, we present the comparison of Autler–Townes (AT) splitting in fluorescence and six-wave mixing (SWM) signals with electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). With the detunings of the generating or external-dressing fields scanned, the two signals are distinguished theoretically and investigated experimentally. The EIT separation and AT splitting in fluorescence and SWM can be controlled by a phase determined by the angle in between the incident beams. These phenomena also can be modulated by the incident beam powers. In particular, the anti-AT splitting representing the vanishing tendency of secondary AT splitting is observed.

Polarized dressing suppression and enhancement involving Rydberg in a thermal vapor cell

Junling Che, Zhaoyang Zhang, Changbiao Li +4 more

In this letter, we show polarized dressing suppression and enhancement of six-wave mixing involving Rydberg in a multi-Zeeman-level atomic system. By scanning the frequency detuning of the dressing field, we observe the suppression and enhancement of Rydberg six-wave mixing with different polarization of the probe field in thermal vapors. Since different polarization states of the dressing field can select different transitions among multi-Zeeman levels, the polarization dependence of Rydberg dressing is investigated for the first time. Theoretical calculations are given and are in good agreement with the experimental results.

Polarization interference in six-wave mixing in a Doppler-broadened N-type four-level system

Jinyan Niu, Ruquan Wang, Ling-An Wu +1 more

In nonlinear atomic gaseous media the interference between independent macroscopic polarizations of different ensembles within the atomic velocity distribution can lead to anomalous behavior of the multiwave mixing spectra. For phase-conjugate six-wave mixing (SWM) in a Doppler-broadened N-type four-level system, it is found that the SWM spectrum can be either Doppler-free or very broad, depending on the directions of the incident beams and the ratios between the magnitudes of the wave vectors. This polarization interference can be controlled by the strong coupling field which, on the other hand, can induce Autler-Townes (AT) splitting when the SWM spectrum is Doppler-free. This technique may find special applications as an improved form of AT spectroscopy with higher resolution.
