Phase Conjugation in Degenerate Four-wave Mixing with Finite Apertures

Zdeněk Bouchal, Jan Peřina

The phase-conjugate field fidelity in backward-going four-wave mixing, based on the diffraction model solvable analytically, is investigated. The method assumes interaction of the non-depleted infinite plane pump waves with the spatially limited probe and signal waves inside the nonlinear medium. Solutions are obtained applying the Fourier transformation and the Green function technique under various boundary conditions for coupled wave equations. The probe and its phase-conjugate waves are defined by using a complex phase formulation including both the phase variation and amplitude modulation. It is shown that the analysed approach can involve assumptions leading to the ideal or distorted phase conjugation.

Optical phase conjugation by resonant degenerate four-wave mixing in liquid phase medium

Fan Rong-Wei, Deying Chen, Fang Tao +3 more

In this paper, frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser's phase conjugation has been investigated experimentally using resonant degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM). The iodine solution was used as resonant medium. In this way, the energy of the DFWM phase conjugation beam arrived at 43μJ/pulse while the total pump beam's energy reached 8mJ/pulse. The relation between the pulse energy of the DFWM phase conjugation beam and that of the pump beam was investigated. We also measured the optical field distributions of pump beam and DFWM phase conjugation beam, from which it can be noticed that the DFWM phase conjugation can improve the laser beam quality. At the same time, we observed the influence of the pump beam's disturbance on the DFWM signal.

Nearly degenerate four wave mixing in DFB lasers

Antonio Mecozzi, P. Spanò, Alessandro D’Ottavi +1 more

Degenerate Four Wave Mixing (DFWM) and Nearly Degenerate Four Wave Mixing (NDFWM) have attracted a considerable attention in non-linear optics. DFWM has found several applications in phase conjugation, used in real time holography and adaptive optics. To realize a higher amplification of the conjugate wave, semiconductor amplifiers have been used. A theoretical analysis of the NDFWM process has been presented by Agrawal [1]. Here, an experimental and theoretical analysis of NDFWM in Distributed Feedback (DFB) lasers is proposed, where the FWM efficiency is enhanced by the cavity feedback mechanism.
