Abstract

This paper investigates the outage performance of the secure cooperative system over correlated Rayleigh fading channels in the presence of the eavesdropper and the jammer. Assuming that the transmitter knows the full channel state information (CSI) before transmission, there exist one eavesdropper and multiple cooperative relay nodes in system, and a relay node is chosen to act as jammer to send the jamming signals. We consider two typical scenarios: 1) the legitimate channel is correlated with the jamming channel to the destination, while the wiretap channel is independent of the jamming channel to the eavesdropper, and 2) the wiretap channel is correlated with the jamming channel to the eavesdropper, while the legitimate channel is independent of the jamming channel to the destination. For each scenario, we derive the expression of secrecy outage probability of the proposed secure cooperative system, respectively. Numerical results show that the channel correlation has significant impacts on the secrecy outage probability of the secure cooperative system.

On the Secure Outage Performance for Dual-Hop Network Coding Systems with Cooperative Jamming

Hequn Liu, Mingtai He, Yameng Zhou, Tianli Wu, Gaofeng Pan, and Tingting Li

In this paper, a design of cooperative network coding (NC) and jammer relay (JR) is proposed for this two-way network in order to improve the security of the date exchange. Considering the system over Rayleigh fading channels in the presence of one eavesdropper and two relays, we study secrecy outage (including the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity and secure outage probability), respectively. In this paper, one relay is regarded as NC relay which is used to make codes by xor in order to prevent eavesdropper’s interception while the other one is regarded as a jammer relay which can send interference to eavesdropper. We derive exact expressions for the secure outage probability. The accuracy of our performance analysis is verified by simulation results.

Outage Performance for Secure Communication over Correlated Fading Channels with Partial CSI

Jinxiao Zhu, Xiaohong Jiang, Yuezhi Zhou +3 more

This paper considers the transmission of confidential data over a quasi-static fading wiretap channel where the main and eavesdropper channels are correlated. Assuming that before transmission the transmitter knows the channel state information (CSI) of the main channel, we derive the secrecy outage probability in a closed-form expression based on a new secrecy outage probability formula, which gives a more explicit measure on the level of security compared with the previous one. Remarkably, our results, which cover the corresponding results when the main channel and eavesdropper channels are independent as special cases, reveal that channel correlation has a significant impact on secrecy outage probability and such impact can be helpful or harmful depending on the relative channel conditions and transmission SNR threshold.

Correlation-Based Cooperative Jamming to Enhance Secrecy With Receiver-Side Correlation

Sai Xu, Shuai Han, Weixiao Meng +2 more

This paper investigates cooperative security for slow-fading channels, where the source sends confidential messages to the destination with the assistance of a cooperative jammer coexisting with multiple passive eavesdroppers. Assuming that accurate legitimate channel information and statistical illegitimate channel information are available with an independent transmitter side and a highly correlated receiver side, we propose a correlation-based cooperative jamming approach to reduce the secrecy loss due to receiver-side correlation. In particular, the correlation is considered to be a resource for acquiring more knowledge about illegitimate channels, based on which the statistical distribution of illegitimate channels is described more precisely. Then, the power of artificial noise in the null space of the legitimate channel from the jammer to the destination is placed more reasonably rather than as a simple uniform distribution. Additionally, a correlation-based beamformer is designed for transmitting the information-bearing signal. Finally, the achievable secrecy rate under a secrecy outage constraint is computed. The numerical results confirm that the proposed scheme achieves a performance improvement in terms of secrecy rate under a secrecy outage constraint when the receiver side is highly correlated.

Secrecy outage performance for partial relay selection schemes in cooperative systems

Yameng Zhou, Gaofeng Pan, Tingting Li +3 more

In this study, secrecy outage performance is studied for partial relay selection (PRS) schemes in cooperative systems over Rayleigh fading channels. In the considered systems, there are one source (S), one destination (D), one eavesdropper, one jammer that can send interference to the eavesdropper, and N ( N > 1) relay candidates, one of which is selected as the relay (R). By considering the practical scenarios and to protect the transmitted information over R–D link from being eavesdropped, the authors propose a new transmission scheme: let D send random information to R while S sending information to R. Then, R processes the messages from S and D by XOR operation in order to prevent the eavesdropper's interception while the information is delivered between R and D. They study the secrecy outage performance for two PRS schemes: (i) the optimal source–relay link (OSRL) scheme; and (ii) the optimal source–relay–destination link (OSRDL) scheme. The closed‐form expressions for the secrecy outage probability (SOP) of the two PRS schemes are derived, as well as the closed‐form upper bound for SOP under OSRL scheme and the lower bound for SOP under OSRDL scheme. Finally, simulation results are given to verify the presented analytical models and the proposed transmission scheme.

Secrecy Analysis on Half-Duplex Two-Way Relay Transmission UsingVarious Transmission Channels and Jamming Strategies

Mohammed Ahmed Salem, Azlan Bin Abd.Aziz, Mohamad Yusoff Alias +2 more

The open nature of the wireless networks makes them vulnerable to the eavesdropper attacks. Cooperative relay transmission is a popular method to prevent the attacks of the illegal nodes. This research proposes a cooperative jamming protocol to enhance the physical layer in wireless cooperative networks, where the destination sends a jamming signal to the eavesdropper node to degrade its channel capacity. Simulations of the secrecy performance metrics in terms of the secrecy capacity and secrecy outage probability are presented and discussed to measure the security level of the proposed jamming protocol. In this paper, different channels namely Rician fading, Rayleigh fading, and Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channels are investigated in the half-duplex two-way relaying system to obtain the maximum secrecy performance. Based on the results, the highest secrecy capacity is achieved by using the Rician fading channel for transmission from the source to the destination and using the Rayleigh channel as the jamming link to degrade the eavesdropper capacity.
