Ising model on an irregular lattice as a fermion string model

Abstract

We have constructed a Majorana fermion representation of the two-dimensional Ising model on an irregular triangulated lattice with the topology of a sphere and of a torus and also a fermion representation of the correlation function of disorder operators on the dual lattice. The representations obtained give the possibility of a nonperturbative analysis of the fermion string and in particular, may be used for Monte Carlo simulation.

The Ising Model on $\mathbb S^2$

Richard C. Brower, Evan K. Owen

We define a 2-dimensional Ising model on a triangulated sphere, $\mathbb S^2$, designed to approach the exact conformal field theory (CFT) in the continuum limit. Surprisingly, the derivation leads to a set of geometric constraints that the lattice field theory must satisfy. Monte Carlo simulations are in agreement with the exact Ising CFT on $\mathbb S^2$. We discuss the inherent benefits of using non-uniform simplicial lattices and how these methods may be generalized for use with other quantum theories on curved manifolds.

Quantum Monte Carlo simulation of a two-dimensional Majorana lattice model

Tomoya Hayata, Arata Yamamoto

We study interacting Majorana fermions in two dimensions as a low-energy effective model of a vortex lattice in two-dimensional time-reversal-invariant topological superconductors. For that purpose, we implement ab initio quantum Monte Carlo simulation to the Majorana fermion system in which the path-integral measure is given by a semipositive Pfaffian. We discuss spontaneous breaking of time-reversal symmetry at finite temperatures.

Duality of a two-dimensional nonhomogeneous Ising model on a finite lattice

A. I. Bugrij, V. N. Shadura

Duality relations for the two-dimensional nonhomogeneous Ising model on the finite square lattice wrapped on the torus are obtained. The partition function of the model on the dual lattice with arbitrary combinations of the periodical and antiperiodical boundary conditions along the cycles of the torus is expressed through some specific combination of the partition functions of the model on the original lattice with corresponding boundary conditions. It is shown that the structure of the duality relations is connected with the topological peculiarities of the dual transformation of the model on the torus.

Simplicial Lattice Study of the 2d Ising CFT

Owen, Evan

I derive a formulation of the 2-dimensional critical Ising model on non-uniform simplicial lattices. Surprisingly, the derivation leads to a set of geometric constraints that a lattice must satisfy in order for the model to have a well-defined continuum limit. I perform Monte Carlo simulations of the critical Ising model on discretizations of several non-trivial manifolds including a twisted torus and a 2-sphere and I show that the simulations are in agreement with the 2d Ising CFT in the continuum limit. I discuss the inherent benefits of using non-uniform simplicial lattices to study quantum field theory and how the methods developed here can potentially be generalized for use with other theories.

Monte Carlo study of a two-dimensional spin-polarized fermion lattice gas

Douglas J. Scalapino, Robert L. Sugar, W. D. Toussaint

A model of spin-polarized fermions hopping on a two-dimensional lattice with a near-neighbor repulsive interaction is simulated with the use of Monte Carlo methods. This system exhibits an Ising-like order-disorder phase transition as the temperature is lowered. Results for the structure factor, staggered susceptibility, and order parameter are obtained, and finite-size scaling on lattices of 4\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}4, 6\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}6, and 8\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}8 is used to estimate ${T}_{c}$ and test the nature of the phase transition.
