Efficient hyperentanglement purification for two-photon six-qubit quantum systems

Abstract

Recently, two-photon six-qubit hyperentanged states were produced in experiment and they can improve the channel capacity of quantum communication largely. Here we present the first scheme for the hyperentanglement purification of nonlocal two-photon systems in three degrees of freedom (DOFs), including the polarization, the first longitudinal momentum, and the second longitudinal momentum DOFs. Our hyper-EPP is constructed with two steps resorting to parity-check quantum nondemolition measurement on the three DOFs and SWAP gates, respectively. With these two steps, the bit-flip errors in the three DOFs can be corrected efficiently. Using SWAP gates is a universal method for hyper-EPP in the polarization DOF and multiple longitudinal momentum DOFs. The implementation of our hyper-EPP is assisted by nitrogen-vacancy centers in optical microcavities, which could be achieved with current techniques. It is useful for long-distance high-capacity quantum communication with two-photon six-qubit hyperentanglement.

Faithful and efficient hyperentanglement purification for spatial-polarization-time-bin photon system

Fang‐Fang Du, Gang Fan, Yi-Ming Wu +1 more

We present a faithful and efficient hyperentanglement purification protocol (hyper-EPP) for nonlocal two-photon systems in spatial-polarization-time-bin hyperentangled Bell states. As the single-photon detectors can detect and herald the undesirable properties caused by side leakage and finite coupling strength, the parity-check gates and swap gates of our hyper-EPP in the spatial, polarization and time-bin mode degrees of freedom (DoFs) work faithfully. The qubit-flip errors in photon systems in three DoFs can be corrected effectively with the faithful parity-check gates and the photon pairs can be reused to distill high-fidelity ones by introducing the faithful swap gates, which greatly increases the efficiency of our hyper-EPP. Further, the maximal hyperentanglement can be obtained in principle by operating multiple rounds of the hyper-EPP.

Efficient hyperentanglement purification for three-photon systems with the fidelity-robust quantum gates and hyperentanglement link

Fang‐Fang Du, Yong-Ting Liu, Zhenrong Shi +3 more

We present an efficient and faithful hyperentanglement purification protocol (hyper-EPP) for three-photon system in mixed hyperentangled Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states with bit-flip errors in both spatial-mode and polarization degrees of freedom (DOFs), resorting to the fidelity-robust quantum gates and hyperentanglement link. Our high-efficiency hyper-EPP comes from two aspects. One is to pump the higher-fidelity hyperentanglement from different three-photon systems into the same three-photon system with fidelity-robust swap gates, the other is to reproduce some hyperentangled three-photon systems from hyperentangled two-photon subsystems based on hyperentanglement link. Moreover, as the infidelity originating from imperfect single-photon scattering can be heralded as a failure by triggering a detector, our hyper-EPP operates faithfully with the present quantum circuits. Furthermore, our hyper-EPP can be directly extended to purify multiple photon systems entangled in one DOF or hyperentangled in multiple DOFs.

Two-step hyperentanglement purification with the quantum-state-joining method

Bao‐Cang Ren, Fang‐Fang Du, Fu‐Guo Deng

Hyperentanglement is a promising resource in quantum information processing, especially for increasing the channel capacity of long-distance quantum communication. Hyperentanglement purification is an important method to obtain high-fidelity nonlocal hyperentangled states from mixed hyperentangled states in a long-distance quantum communication process with noisy channels. Here, we present a two-step hyperentanglement purification protocol for nonlocal mixed hyperentangled states with polarization bit-flip errors and spatial-mode phase-flip errors, resorting to polarization-spatial phase-check quantum nondemolition detectors and the quantum-state-joining method (QSJM). With QSJM, the protocol can preserve the states that are discarded in the previous hyperentanglement purification protocols. It has the advantage of a high efficiency, and it is useful for improving the entanglement of photon systems with several degrees of freedom in long-distance high-capacity quantum communication.

Hyperentanglement concentration of nonlocal two-photon six-qubit systems via the cross-Kerr nonlinearity

Qian Liu, Guo‐Zhu Song, Tianhui Qiu +3 more

We present an efficient hyperentanglement concentration protocol (hyper-ECP) for two-photon six-qubit systems in nonlocal partially hyperentangled Bell states with unknown parameters. In our scheme, we use two identical partially hyperentangled states which are simultaneously entangled in polarization and two different longitudinal momentum degrees of freedom (DOFs) to distill the maximally hyperentangled Bell state. The quantum nondemolition detectors based on the cross-Kerr nonlinearity are used to realize the parity checks of two-photon systems in three DOFs. The hyper-ECP can extract all the useful entanglement source, and the success probability can reach the theory limit with the help of iteration. All these advantages make our hyper-ECP useful in long-distance quantum communication in the future.

Complete nondestructive analysis of two-photon six-qubit hyperentangled Bell states assisted by cross-Kerr nonlinearity

Qian Liu, Guan-Yu Wang, Qing Ai +2 more

Hyperentanglement, the entanglement in several degrees of freedom (DOFs) of a quantum system, has attracted much attention as it can be used to increase both the channel capacity of quantum communication and its security largely. Here, we present the first scheme to completely distinguish the hyperentangled Bell states of two-photon systems in three DOFs with the help of cross-Kerr nonlinearity without destruction, including two longitudinal momentum DOFs and the polarization DOF. We use cross-Kerr nonlinearity to construct quantum nondemolition detectors which can be used to make a parity-check measurement and analyze Bell states of two-photon systems in different DOFs. Our complete scheme for two-photon six-qubit hyperentangled Bell-state analysis may be useful for the practical applications in quantum information, especially in long-distance high-capacity quantum communication.
