Abstract

We propose a specific method for converting a four-photon Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state to a W state in a deterministic way by using linear optical elements, cross-Kerr nonlinearities, and homodyne measurement. We consider the effects of the quadrature homodyne measurements on the fidelity of the W state and the experimental feasibility of the proposed scheme. This might provide great prospects for converting multipartite entangled states into each other for future optical quantum information processing (QIP).

A nearly deterministic scheme for generation of multiphoton GHZ states with weak cross-Kerr nonlinearity

Yi Wang, Liu Ye, Bao‐Long Fang

We propose a scheme to generate polarization-entangled multiphoton Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states based on weak cross-Kerr nonlinearity and subsequent homodyne measurement. It can also be generalized to produce maximally N -qubit entangled states. The success probabilities of our schemes are almost equal to 1.

Conversion of Knill–Laflamme–Milburn Entanglement to Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger Entanglement

Abstract Schemes for converting photonic polarized‐entangled Knill–Laflamme–Milburn (KLM) states to Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) states are proposed using weak cross‐Kerr nonlinearity and X‐quadrature homodyne measurement. Analyses show that the two‐qubit (Bell state) and three‐qubit conversion cases have very high fidelities and close‐to‐unity probabilities. The conversion processes are robust against photon loss. The schemes linking these two entangled states may be helpful to the study of quantum information processing based on them.

Generation of four-photon polarization entangled states with cross-Kerr nonlinearity

Meiyu Wang, Fengli Yan

We show how to prepare three different types of four-photon polarization entangled states among four modes. The scheme only use cross-Kerr medium, polarization beam splitters and X homodyne measurements on coherent light fields, which can be efficiently implemented in quantum optical laboratories. GHZ states and symmetric Dick states can be generated in deterministic way based on the scheme. With the possible availability of suitable strong Kerr nonlinearity, another type of entangled state called genuine four-photon entangled state can be realized as well.

Direct conversion of Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger state to Knill–Laflamme–Milburn state in decoherence-free subspace

Lei Chen, Xiao-Ming Xiu, Li Dong +5 more

Several schemes are proposed to realize the conversion of photonic polarized-entangled Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state to Knill-Laflamme-Milburn state in decoherence-free subspace (DFS) via weak cross-Kerr nonlinearity and X-quadrature homodyne measurement with high fidelity. DFS is introduced to decrease the decoherence effect caused by the coupling between the system and the environment. Optimizations to improve the success rate and utilization of residual states are further investigated. This study indicates important applications for quantum information processing in the future.

Generation of the Four-Photon W State and Other Multiphoton-Entangled States Using Parametric Down-Conversion

Takayoshi Kobayashi

We propose two interesting methods of generating the four-photon W state. These methods use parametric down-conversion processes, linear optical elements, and commercial photon detectors, which are readily feasible under current technology. They can also be used to generate the three-photon W state, the three-photon Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger state, and the three-photon maximally entangled photon-number state (a typical photon-number entanglement state) by simply changing some experimental components or their parameters. Moreover, assuming we have photon number-resolving detectors, these methods can develop into methods that generate a general n -photon W state. They are expected to become powerful tools for experimental investigations of multipartite entanglement and its applications to quantum information processing.
