Abstract

We propose a scheme for generation of a nonlinear coherent state (NCS) of a mechanical resonator (MR) in an optomechanical micro-cavity, in which a two-level quantum dot (QD) and the microcavity are respectively driven by a strong laser and a weak laser. This microcavity can be engineered within a photonic band-gap (PBG) material. By properly tuning the frequency of the weak driving field, two-photon blockade phenomenon occurs. The QD-cavity subsystem can evolve into a dark state due to the damping of the microcavity and the elimination of the decay rate of the QD at selected frequencies in the PBG material. In this situation, the phonon mode of the MR can be prepared into a NCS, which is a non-classical state and possesses the sub-Poisson statistics. We also demonstrate the Wigner function of the NCS, which negativity implies its non-classicality.

Nonclassical non-Gaussian state of a mechanical resonator via selectively incoherent damping in a three-mode optomechanical system

Kang-jing Huang, Yan Yan, Jia‐pei Zhu +2 more

In this paper we propose a scheme for the generation of a nonclassical non-Gaussian motional state of a mechanical resonator (MR) in the three-mode optomechanical system in which two linearly coupled single-mode cavities interact dispersively with the mechanical oscillator simultaneously. With one cavity driven by a weak laser field and by properly tuning the driving frequency, a desirable phononic Liouvillian superoperator can be obtained by engineering the selective interaction Hamiltonian confined to Fock subspaces. It is shown that the MR can be driven dissipatively into a steady non-Gaussian nonclassical state, which possesses sub-Poisson statistics, although its Wigner function is positive. The present scheme can be useful for obtaining single phonons.

Photon blockade in a coupled double quantum dot—nonlinear optomechanical system

Vijay Bhatt, Surabhi Yadav, Pradip K. Jha +1 more

Abstract We propose a scheme to generate strongly sub-Poissonian light via photon blockade in a photonic crystal nanocavity embedded with a χ (2) nonlinear material and two interacting quantum dots (QD). The second- order correlation function at zero time delay g (2) (0) in our scheme can be reduced to g (2) (0) ∼ 10 −3 by a large χ (2) nonlinearity and by optimizing the QD and optical cavity detuning. Our proposal provides a highly tunable and efficient method for single photon source on demand which has potential applications in solid state based quantum information processing.

Steady-state negative Wigner functions of nonlinear nanomechanical oscillators

Simon Rips, Martin Kiffner, Ignacio Wilson-Rae +1 more

We propose a scheme for preparing nanomechanical oscillators in nonclassical steady states, characterized by a pronounced negative Wigner function. In our optomechanical approach, the mechanical oscillator couples to multiple laser-driven resonances of an optical cavity. By lowering the resonance frequency of the oscillator via an inhomogeneous electrostatic field, we significantly enhance its intrinsic geometric nonlinearity per phonon. This causes the motional sidebands to split into separate spectral lines for each phonon number and transitions between individual phonon Fock states can be selectively addressed. We show that this enables the preparation of the nanomechanical oscillator in a single-phonon Fock state. Our scheme can, for example, be implemented with a carbon nanotube dispersively coupled to the evanescent field of a state of the art whispering gallery mode microcavity.

Single Photon Generation in a Cavity Optomechanical System induced by a Nonlinear Photonic Crystal

Bijita Sarma, Amarendra K. Sarma

We propose a novel scheme for realizing single-photon blockade in a weakly driven hybrid cavity optomechanical system consisting of a nonlinear photonic crystal. Sub-Poissonian statistics is realized even when the single-photon optomechanical coupling strength is smaller than the decay rate of the optical mode. The scheme relaxes the requirement of strong coupling for photon blockade in optomechanical systems. It is shown that photon blockade could be generated at the telecommunication wavelength.

Ground-state cooling of a nanomechanical resonator via single-polariton optomechanics in a coupled quantum-dot–cavity system

Benyuan Zhou, Gao‐xiang Li

We propose a rapid ground-state optomechanical cooling scheme in a hybrid system, where a two-level quantum dot (QD) is placed in a single-mode cavity and a nanomechanical resonator (NMR) is also coupled to the cavity via radiation pressure. The cavity is driven by a weak laser field while the QD is driven by another weak laser field. Due to the quantum destructive interference arisen from different transition channels induced by simultaneously driving the QD-cavity system in terms of the two different lasers, two-photon absorption for the cavity field can be effectively eliminated by performing an optimal quantum interference condition. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the QD-cavity system can be unbalancedly prepared in two single-polariton states with different eigenenergies. If the frequency of the NMR is tuned to be resonant with transition between two single-polariton states, it is found that a fast ground-state cooling for the NMR can also be achieved, even when the QD-cavity system is originally in the moderate-coupling regime. Thus the present ground-state cooling scheme for the NMR may be realized with currently available experimental technology.

Generation of entangled coherent states in cavity QED and its nonclassicality

Chenchao Hua, Shi-Qing Tang

Cavity quantum electrodynamics is the intersection of quantum physics and microcavity optics research. In this paper, we presented a two-mode cavity coupled to a classical field driven by N three-level atoms to prepare entangled coherent states based on cavity QED. In this scheme, we adopt the interaction between the three-level atoms and the two-mode optical cavity, The initial state of one optical field is an odd-even coherent state, while the initial state of another optical field is a coherent state. After considering the time evolution of the initial states with the system, we obtained the specific form of the time evolution of the quantum states and prepared the entangled coherent state successfully. We discussed and analysed some of the nonclassical properties of the optical field and quantum states, including the second-order correlation function and the Wigner function. The results show that when calculating the second-order correlation function, the photons are found to exhibit a sub-Poisson distribution at some points in time. In addition, when observing the Wigner function of the quantum states evolving with time, it is found that there is a negative part of the Wigner distribution at some moments, which implies that the quantum state exhibits nonclassical properties at these certain moments.
