An Overview of Quantum Cryptography

Abstract

Over the past few years, much attention has been paid to the domains of quantum computing and quantum cryptography. Both quantum computing and quantum cryptography have huge potential, and when they are ultimately deployed in totality will require massive changes in the state of information security. As of late 2005, quantum cryptography is still an early commercial opportunity; however, actual commercial quantum computing devices will not appear on the scene for another 15 to 25 years. This chapter provides a brief overview on the topic of quantum cryptography and the effects it will have on the information security industry.

Post-Quantum Cryptography trends and perspectives

This paper devoted to overview impact of quantum computing to modern cryptography and to analyze possible trends of cryptography development in the next years.Quantum computing became more popular these days and performance obtained using quantum computers promises to be extremely high. This trend causes to the security risks of current cryptographic algorithms usage without sufficient feasibility and analysis. It means that extremely high performance of quantum computers will be able to break some of existing cryptographic algorithm and produce the risk in security at all.To avoid such situation many cryptography specialists within whole world start research in the direction of so-called Post-quantum Cryptographic algorithms.Currently there are several projects performing research in this direction.Actuality of this topic is confirmed by many scientific papers in this direction. So, this paper contains overview of cryptography trends considering quantum computing coming in the nearest future.

A Review on Quantum Computing and Security

K. Muthumanickam, P. C. Senthil Mahesh, Mahmoud Ragab

Modern encryption methods are built upon the fundamentally “uncomfortable” process of computing huge integers to their primes. However, current cryptography is vulnerable to both increases in processing power and the emergence of quickly reversing huge integer factorization in mathematics. Therefore, incorporating quantum physics into encryption is the solution, which leads to an assessment of quantum cryptography. The field of cryptography and security is undergoing significant change as a result of the potential of scalable quantum computing. In this theoretical paper, the authors examine the development of quantum computing. The authors continue by listing the current threats to cryptographic primitives. Readers can deduce knowledge of a variety of topics from this review article, including risks posed by quantum technologies to traditional cryptography, modern cryptography – private key cryptography, post-quantum cryptography, quantum key distribution, and effects on hash functions and post-quantum cryptography.

Quantum Security: An Overview of Quantum Cryptography

Yiheng Chen

Recent years have witnessed a furious race for quantum technologies in both academia and industry, driven by the rapid progress in quantum cryptography. The traditional cryptography faces the risk of being deciphered. Thus, traditional ways of transmitting information are not safe anymore. For those reasons, future information transmission needs to use quantum cryptography. This paper explores the two most important ways to achieve quantum security: Quantum Key Distribution and Post Quantum Cryptography. This study also investigates the synergistic integration of these two methodologies within quantum security systems, including their background, current mainstream technology, the encountered problems, some ways to solve them and future directions. Through the method of literature review, the paper finds that Quantum Key Distribution and Post Quantum Cryptography are important in protecting information security in the future, but they are still imperfect and have many problems that need to be solved, including technical immaturity, interoperability constraints, and scalability bottlenecks that demand global cooperation.

A Survey on Quantum Cryptography

Jian Li, Na Li, Yu Zhang +4 more

Quantum cryptography (QC) as an important technology to protect the security of the future network communication, has gained extensive attention from both academia and industry in recent years. This paper provides a concise up-to-date review of QC, including Quantum key distribution (QKD), Quantum authentication, Quantum public-key cryptography (QPKC), and so on. Our aim is to pave a comprehensive and solid starting ground for interested readers. We firstly clarify the definition of QC. Secondly, we present the current understanding of QC from different levels, including the basic knowledge of quantum information processing, QC protocols and the attacks in QC. Finally, we discuss the challenges and opportunities in this hopeful field.

Quantum Cryptography and Simulation

Shuangbao Wang, Matthew Rohde, Amjad Ali

The advancement of quantum mechanics has accelerated the quantum computer architecture and hardware. However, algorithms and implementations to take the full advantage of entanglements provided by quantum devices are still far behind. Quantum cryptography offers the possibility of theoretically perfect security based on the principles of quantum mechanics, ensuring that the presence of an eavesdropper will be detected before any sensitive information is transmitted. However, the relevant technology is still under development - hardware, though commercially available, is still in an immature state, and the protocols used to implement secure communications using that hardware may still be improved. The use of simulations is an important tool for studying quantum cryptography, as they can enable researchers to make valuable insights at a relatively low cost. The data garnered from working with simulations can provide direction for further research both in the development of new communications protocols and in the improvement of actual hardware systems.
