Generalized concurrences do not provide necessary and sufficient conditions for entanglement detection

Abstract

We study generalized concurrences as a tool to detect the entanglement of bipartite quantum systems. By considering the case of 2x4 states of rank 2, we prove that generalized concurrences do not, in general, give a necessary and sufficient condition of separability. We identify a set of entangled states which are undetected by this method.

A note on generalized concurrences and entanglement detection

Concurrence in arbitrary dimensions

Piotr Badziag, Piotr Deuar, Michał Horodecki +2 more

We argue that a complete characterization of quantum correlations in bipartite systems of many dimensions may require a quantity which, even for pure states, does not reduce to a single number. Subsequently, we introduce multidimensional generalizations of concurrence and find evidence that they may provide useful tools for the analysis of quantum correlations in mixed bipartite states. We also introduce biconcurrence that leads to a necessary and sufficient condition for separability.

A lower bound of concurrence for multipartite quantum states

Ming Li, Shao-Ming Fei, Zhi‐Xi Wang

We study the concurrence of arbitrary multipartite mixed quantum states. An explicit lower bound of the concurrence is derived, which detects quantum entanglement of some states better than some separability criteria, and gives sufficient conditions for distilling GHZ states from tripartite states. An interesting relation between the lower bound of the concurrence for bipartite states and for tripartite states has been presented.

Universal framework for entanglement detection

Michał Oszmaniec, Marek Kuś

We construct nonlinear multiparty entanglement measures for distinguishable particles, bosons, and fermions. In each case properties of an entanglement measure are related to the decomposition of the suitably chosen representation of the relevant symmetry group onto irreducible components. In the case of distinguishable particles considered entanglement measure reduces to the well-known many-particle concurrence. We prove that our entanglement criterion is sufficient and necessary for pure states living in both finite and infinite dimensional spaces. We generalize our entanglement measures to mixed states by the convex roof extension and give a nontrivial lower bound of thus obtained generalized concurrence.

Separability criteria based on the Bloch representation of density matrices

Juan de Vicente

We study the separability of bipartite quantum systems in arbitrary dimensions using the Bloch representation of their density matrix. This approach enables us to find an alternative characterization of the separability problem, from which we derive a necessary condition and sufficient conditions for separability. For a certain class of states the necessary condition and a sufficient condition turn out to be equivalent, therefore yielding a necessary and sufficient condition. The proofs of the sufficient conditions are constructive, thus providing decompositions in pure product states for the states that satisfy them. We provide examples that show the ability of these conditions to detect entanglement. In particular, the necessary condition is proved to be strong enough to detect bound entangled states.
