Chosen‐Ciphertext Security from Identity‐Based Encryption

Dan Boneh, Ran Canetti, Shai Halevi +1 more

We propose simple and efficient CCA‐secure public‐key encryption schemes (i.e., schemes secure against adaptive chosen‐ciphertext attacks) based on any identity‐based encryption (IBE) scheme. Our constructions have ramifications of both theoretical and practical interest. First, our schemes give a new paradigm for achieving CCA‐security; this paradigm avoids “proofs of well‐formedness” that have been shown to underlie previous constructions. Second, instantiating our construction using known IBE constructions we obtain CCA‐secure encryption schemes whose performance is competitive with the most efficient CCA‐secure schemes to date. Our techniques extend naturally to give an efficient method for securing IBE schemes (even hierarchical ones) against adaptive chosen‐ciphertext attacks. Coupled with previous work, this gives the first efficient constructions of CCA‐secure IBE schemes.

Leakage-Resilient Chosen-Ciphertext Secure Public-Key Encryption from Hash Proof System and One-Time Lossy Filter.

Baodong Qin, Shengli Liu

We present a new generic construction of a public-key encryption (PKE) scheme secure against leakage-resilient chosen-ciphertext attacks (LR-CCA), from any Hash Proof System (HPS) and any one-time lossy filter (OT-LF). Efficient constructions of HPSs and OT-LFs from the DDH and DCR assumptions suggest that our construction is a practical approach to LR-CCA security. Most of practical PKEs with LR-CCA security, like variants of Cramer-Shoup scheme, rooted from Hash Proof Systems, but with leakage rates at most 1/4 − o(1) (defined as the ratio of leakage amount to secret-key size). The instantiations of our construction from the DDH and DCR assumptions result in LR-CCA secure PKEs with leakage rate of 1/2 − o(1). On the other hand, our construction also creates a new approach for constructing IND-CCA secure (leakage-free) PKE schemes, which may be of independent interest.

Simulation-Based Selective Opening Security for Receivers under Chosen-Ciphertext Attacks.

Zhengan Huang, Junzuo Lai, Wenbin Chen +3 more

Security against selective opening attack (SOA) for receivers requires that in a multi-user setting, even if an adversary has access to all ciphertexts, and adaptively corrupts some fraction of the users to obtain the decryption keys corresponding to some of the ciphertexts, the remaining (potentially related) ciphertexts retain their privacy. In this paper, we study simulation-based selective opening security for receivers of public key encryption (PKE) schemes under chosen-ciphertext attacks (RSIM-SO-CCA). Concretely, we first show that some known PKE schemes meet RSIM-SO-CCA security. Then, we introduce the notion of master-key SOA security for identity-based encryption (IBE), and extend the Canetti–Halevi–Katz transformation to show generic PKE constructions achieving RSIM-SO-CCA security. Finally, we show how to construct an IBE scheme achieving master-key SOA security.
