Stability of a 2-photon bistable system in a standing wave cavity

In the one photon OB problem, McCalls method [1] gives an accurate solution for the stationary behaviour of the forward and backward field envelopes while the Fleck approach [2] has serious faults [3,4]. A linear stability analysis using truncation [5] predicts instabilities of self-pulsing type on the upper transmission branch for C > 60 (C is the cooperation parameter). We have repeated this investigation but using McCall’s method in order to test how useful the truncation method is for time dependent problems. We find that the upper branch is now stable for several values of C > 60.
