Regular fractal structure of the energy matrix in ID Heisenberg open spin- 1 2 chains

Feng Pan, J. P. Draayer, L -R Dai +1 more

A permutation group approach to a one-dimensional Heisenberg open spin-j chain with nearest neighbor interactions is studied. Regular fractal structures appear in matrices of the Hamiltonian constructed under the outer-product basis of the permutation group, which enables one to solve the eigenvalue problem in a systematic manner.

Anisotropic Heisenberg chain with composite spin

Jenő Sólyom, JUSSI TIMONEN

A family of one-dimensional magnetic Hamiltonians is introduced, where at each site there are $n$ spin-$S$ operators. It is shown that, for special couplings between spins and for $S=\frac{1}{2}$, the model contains the complete spectrum of the Heisenberg chain with spins \textonehalf{}, 1, frac32;, etc., and the ground state is that of the corresponding Heisenberg chain. By the varying of a single parameter the model allows continuous transitions between chains with different spin. We map the spin-($S+S$) model onto the nonlinear $\ensuremath{\sigma}$ model and discuss the possibility of a finite gap in the spin-(\textonehalf{}+\textonehalf{}) model.

Exactly solvable inhomogeneous XY spin chain

Pierre-Antoine Bernard, Nicolas Crampé, Quentin Labriet +2 more

Abstract Analytical expressions for the eigenvalues of certain inhomogeneous XY spin chains are computed. These models are rewritten in terms of free-fermion models using a well-known Jordan–Wigner transformation. Finding the spectrum of such models amounts to diagonalizing a matrix whose size is equal to the number of sites in the chain. This is achieved by recognizing and exploiting contiguity relations satisfied by specific orthogonal polynomials.

A family of one-dimensional magnetic Hamiltonians is introduced, where at each site there are nnn spin-SSS operators. It is shown that, for special couplings between spins and for S=12S=\frac{1}{2}S=21, the model contains the complete spectrum of the Heisenberg chain with spins \textonehalf{}, 1, frac32;, etc., and the ground state is that of the corresponding Heisenberg chain. By the varying of a single parameter the model allows continuous transitions between chains with different spin. We map the spin-(S+SS+SS+S) model onto the nonlinear $\ensuremath{\sigma}$ model and discuss the possibility of a finite gap in the spin-(\textonehalf{}+\textonehalf{}) model.
