A Kind of Nonclassical Optical States Generated by Beam Splitter

Abstract

Truncated output states can be generated by the conditional measurement if the coherent state and arbitrary Fock state are regarded as the input states of beam splitters. The properties of this kind of truncated optical states are studied in this paper. The results have shown that the output states in one out port have stronger nonclassical properties of squeeze and sub-Poissonian distribution when zero photon is measured in the other out port, and the nonclassical properties can become stronger with the increase of input number state. When m(m>0) photon is measured in one of the out ports, each output state after conditional measurement has the same property in optical field but also exhibits apparent nonclassical effects such as squeezing and sub-Poissonian distribution. It should be noted particularly that the number state corresponding to the measurement in output state after conditional measurement would be truncated if the single number state is input.

Generation of Nonclassical Optical States and Entangle Statesby Using Beam Splitters and Conditional Measurement

Yun‐Jie Xia

Any number state is truncated from the beam splitters' input coherent state by the conditional measurement if the coherent state and single-number state are the beam splitters' input states .The various properties of this kind of the truncated optical field state are studied, the results show that the output states truncated with vacuum state and the single-number state have nonclassical properties of squeeze and sub-Poissonian distribution. The output state has quantum entangle property if the input state of the beam splitter are the former truncated state and vacuum state, so we generate quantum entangle states and verify the nonclassical properties of the truncated state at the same time.

Quantum state truncation using an optical parametric amplifier and a beam splitter

E. P. Mattos, A. Vidiella-Barranco

We present a scheme of quantum state truncation in the Fock basis (quantum scissors), based on the combined action of a nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier and a beam splitter. Differently from previously proposed linear-optics-based quantum scissors devices, which depend on reliable Fock state sources, our scheme requires only readily available Gaussian states, such as coherent state inputs (vacuum state included). A truncated state is generated after performing photodetections in the global state. We find that, depending on which output ports each of the two photodetectors is positioned, different types of truncated states may be produced: (i) states having a maximum Fock number of $N$, or (ii) states having a minimum Fock number $N$. In order to illustrate our method, we discuss an example having as input states a coherent state in the beam splitter and vacuum states in the amplifier, and show that the resulting truncated states display nonclassical properties, such as sub-Poissonian statistics and squeezing. We quantify the nonclassicality degree of the generated states using the Wigner-Yanase skew information measure. For complementarity, we discuss the efficiency of the protocol, e.g., generation probability as well as the effects of imperfections such as the detector's quantum efficiency and dark counts rate.

Measurement-induced nonclassical state from two-mode squeezed vacuum states via beam splitter and its entanglement properties

Heng-Mei Li, Xue-xiang Xu, Hong‐Chun Yuan +1 more

Abstract A theoretical scheme of generating a new kind of two-mode non-Gaussian entangled state is presented by means of beam splitters (BSs) and conditional measurement. Here, after detecting photon numbers at the output port of each BS with two kinds of two-mode squeezed vacuum-state inputs, the output state is proved to be two-variable Hermite polynomial excited squeezed vacuum states. Its success probability of detection, namely, normalization factor, is derived in compact expression related to the Jacobi polynomials. Based on the general expression of expectation value, the statistical properties are discussed by exploring the cross-correlation function and anti-bunching effect. The entanglement properties are also investigated by using the Shchukin–Vogel criteria and Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen correlation. The results show that the entanglement of the output state can be enhanced with the increasing photon detection number under the condition of simultaneously detecting the same photon number at the two output ports, which may have good potential for applications in the field of quantum information processing.

Generation of nonclassical states of light via truncation of mixed states

E. P. Mattos, A. Vidiella-Barranco

A possible way of generating nonclassical states of light is via the truncation of a given state in the Fock basis. In recent work, we presented an alternative scheme for such quantum scissors [ Phys. Rev. A 104 , 033715 ( 2021 ) PLRAAN 1050-2947 10.1103/PhysRevA.104.033715 ], employing a nondegenerate parametric amplifier, a beam splitter, and photodetectors. An advantage of this setup is that it does not require the generation of Fock states beforehand, as in previous proposals. Here we extend this treatment to mixed input states. We show the possibilities of generating truncated states with either a maximum Fock number N or states having a minimum Fock number N . We discuss two specific examples of states to be truncated: (i) the thermal state and (ii) the phase-diffused coherent state. In either case, the generated field states can present sub-Poissonian statistics as well as non-Gaussian character. These nonclassical properties can be adjusted by changing the parameters of the scissors, e.g., the amplifier strength and the beam-splitter transmittance.

Quantum state engineering using conditional measurement on a beam splitter

Mohammed Dakna, L. Knöll, Welsch, D. -G.

State preparation via conditional output measurement on a beam splitter is studied, assuming the signal mode is mixed with a mode prepared in a Fock state and photon numbers are measured in one of the output channels. It is shown that the mode in the other output channel is prepared in either a photon-subtracted or a photon-added Jacobi polynomial state, depending upon the difference between the number of photons in the input Fock state and the number of photons in the output Fock state onto which it is projected. The properties of the conditional output states are studied for coherent and squeezed input states, and the probabilities of generating the states are calculated. Relations to other states, such as near-photon-number states and squeezed-state-excitations, are given and proposals are made for generating them by combining the scheme with others. Finally, effects of realistic photocounting and Fock-state preparation are discussed.

Generating Schrödinger-cat-like states by means of conditional measurements on a beam splitter

Mohammed Dakna, Tiemo Anhut, Tomáš Opatrný +2 more

A scheme for generating Schr\"odinger-cat-like states of a single-mode optical field by means of conditional measurement is proposed. Feeding a squeezed vacuum into a beam splitter and counting the photons in one of the output channels, the conditional states in the other output channel exhibit a number of properties that are very similar to those of superpositions of two coherent states with opposite phases. We present analytical and numerical results for the photon-number and quadrature-component distributions of the conditional states and their Wigner and Husimi functions. Further, we discuss the effect of realistic photocounting on the states.
