Abstract

The ground state energy of the acoustic polaron is calculatedby using Huybrechts variational approach. It was verified that the Huybrechts approach is an available approach and is applicable for the whole coupling range.

The Calculating of Ground State Energy of the Two Dimensional Acoustic Polaron by Using Bound State Wave Function

Liang Xi-Xia

The characters of ground state energy of the two dimensional acoustic poalron as a function of the electron-phonon coupling constant have been investigated by using the Gaussian wave function. The results indicate that the Huybrechts-like approach is equivalent to the variational approach by using the bound state wave function. It was verified that the Huybrechts approach is applicable for the whole coupling range by theory deducing and numerical calculating.

Ground-state energy of the optical polaron

Chih-Yuan Lu, Chi-Kuang Shen

The ground-state energy of the optical polaron is calculated by the generalized path-integral formulation. The ground-state approximation is made to simplify the complicated expression, and the Ritz variational and direct integration methods are used to obtain the ground-state energy in the whole range of coupling strength. The results agree with previous work, and it is found that there is a transition for coupling constant ${\ensuremath{\alpha}}_{c}\ensuremath{\simeq}9.2$. The ground-state energy obtained by harmonic approximation, which is equivalert to taking Gaussian-like trial wave functions, is compared with those obtained by Pekar's trial wave function.

A variational description of the free and localised states of the acoustic deformation potential polaron

A. Erçelebi

The ground-state property of the acoustic deformation potential polaron is retrieved variationally in the overall range of the coupling constant. The calculation is based on an appropriate extension of the strong-coupling theory and yields a reasonable description of the free and self-localised states of the coupled electron-lattice system.

On the Nature of the Self‐Trapping of Different Types of Polarons

P. Nagy, P. Markoš

Abstract A generalized Huybrechts approximation is developed and used for the calculation of the ground state energy, E, of the polaron as the function of the coupling constant α. A simple criterion for the continuity of ∂E/∂α is given, which enables to discuss the nature of the transition of the polaron from the free state to the localised state in the framework of different approximations.

Ground-State Energy of a Strongly-Coupled Polaron

Kazuo Hattori

Ground-state energy of a polaron in the strong-coupling region is calculated. Variational method and second-order perturbation theory are used to improve the usual strong-coupling theory. The results obtained are compared with those by the Feynman theory.

Infinitely Improvable Upper Bound Estimates for Acoustical Polaron Ground State Energy

Nikolay N. Bogolubov, Soldatov, A. V.

It was shown that an infinite convergent sequence of improving non-increasing upper bounds to the ground state energy of a slow-moving acoustical polaron can be obtained by means of generalized variational method. The proposed approach is especially well-suited for massive analytical and numerical computations of experimentally measurable properties of realistic polarons and can be elaborated even further, without major alterations, to allow for treatment of various polaron-type models.
