Abstract

Interaction of thermal radiation field with atom are studied. We find that the field may exhibition photon antibunching and photon sub-Poissonian distribution. We also study the photon statistic properties of thermal radiation field in the process. It can be find that average photon number of thermal radiation field and multi-photon transition process have intense influence on the non-classical properties.

Quantum statistical properties of the non-resonant interaction of a three-level atom with two radiation fields

Songen Sun

Quantum statistical properties such as first-order coherence, antibunching, sub-Poisson distribution and the probability distribution of photon number are studied by considering the non-resonant interaction of two radiation fields with a ' Lambda ' structure three-level atom. It is found that the different detunings and the different ratios of average photon number of two radiation fields as well as the time regime have a remarkable influence on quantum statistical properties of the two radiation fields. The author also emphasises that the initial atomic state plays an important role in the non-resonant interaction and tries to explore the connections among these non-classical effects.

Bounds on sub-Poissonian field statistics in the Jaynes-Cummings model

Mark S. Hillery

The Jaynes-Cummings model describes the interaction between a two-level atom and a single mode of the radiation field. This system has a conservation law which restricts its dynamics. On the basis of this conservation law alone one can make useful statements about the photon statistics of the fields which arise in the model. Two cases are considered. In the first the field is initially in a coherent state. Here it is found that the field statistics become less sub-Poissonian as the amplitude of the initial state increases. The case of an initial thermal state is also considered. In that situation, if the average number of photons present in the initial state is greater than 2.55, then the field statistics can never become sub-Poissonian.

Effect of squeezed light on the photon-number probability distribution and sub-Poissonian distribution in the cascade three-level Jaynes-Cummings model

Lu-Bi Deng, Songen Sun

Quantum-statistical properties such as the photon-number probability distribution and sub-Poissonian distribution are studied by considering the resonant interaction of two radiation fields, one of which is in a squeezed state with a cascade-structure three-level atom. It is noteworthy to emphasize that the direction of squeezing, i.e., the angle \ensuremath{\theta}, and the squeezing parameter r as well as the initial atomic state play important roles in the determination of the nonclassical behavior of the radiation field. At the same time we give a possible explanation for the effect of the ratio of the intensity of the two fields on the quantum-statistical properties.

S. M. Chumakov, M. Kozierowski, J. J. Sánchez-Mondragón

Simple analytical expressions for the time evolution of the mean photon number and its normally ordered variance for the case of an initially thermal cavity field coupled to an initially unexcited two-level atom are proposed. The possibility of appearance of sub-Poissonian field statistics is discussed.

Influence of nonlinearity in one-photon processes on the relationship between field and dipole squeezing in the two-level thermal Jaynes-Cummings model

Aranya B. Bhattacherjee

This paper describes the influence of nonlinear interaction of a two-level atom with a single-mode field via one-photon interaction on the squeezing properties of the radiation and the fluctuations of the atomic dipole variables. The thermal Jaynes-Cummings model nonlinear in occupation number is used.
