Abstract

By using numerical calculation and graphs, the relations between steady-state solutions of moving three-level ladder-type atom in bichromatic traveling fields and Rabi frequency are discussed here.It is shown that ξ has influences on the probability of atom stimulated to upper state and Dopper-shift is more pronounced if Rabi frequency is larger.

Yuan Hai-liang

This paper mainly deals with the steady-state population of a moving ladder-type three-level atom, driven by a superposition of a monochromatic laser wave with a broad-band squeezed vacuum,From the Hamiltonian of the atomic system, making use of Born-Markoff approximation,we derive the master equation for the system and the atomic Bloch equations and obtain the steady-state solutions of the optical Bloch equations using numerical calculation. Then we discuss the dependence of the attained population σ_(ii) on parameters such as detuning Δ,Rabi frequencies e_1e_2,phase ,squeezing photon number N and spontaneous decay ratesγ_1 γ_2 etc in different cases by using graphical method.

Effects of Rabi frequency and initial state on V-type three-level atom in cavity

Gomera Biyazn, Misrak Getahun

We study the dynamics of a ∨-type three-level atom in the cavity employing the dressed state of the system. We consider a ∨-type three-level atom initially in a different state that interacts with two mode photons in a closed cavity. The initial state of the atom and Rabi frequency have a significant effect on the population exchange between excited and ground levels. The numerical results show that the atom-field coupling strength determines the fast and slow periodic oscillation of the probability between the upper and ground states. The highest probability of finding it in the upper and ground states is determined by the initial state conditions of the atom. In general, the initial state conditions of the atom and the atom-field coupling strength have a significant effect on population transfer between the upper and ground states of a ∨-type three-level atom.

The Doppler frequency shift of a moving ladder-type three level atom in broad-band squeezed vacuum

Yuan Hai-liang

By analyzing the influence of the motion of the atoms on the steady-state populations of the atomic levels,we found that the Doppler frequency shift in the double-photon resonance occurs near to the zero double-photon detuning and the Doppler frequency shift in the single-photon resonauce near to the zero single-photon detuning. The double-photon resonance near to zero double-photon detuning does not make the Doppler frequency shift occured when atoms are driven by two counter propagating but same frequency laser beams.

Radiation pressure and laser cooling of a three-level atom in a ladder configuration

Lei Tan, Wang Zhicheng, Huai-Qiang Gu

Radiation pressure and laser cooling of a moving three-level ladder-type atom in bichromatic travelling fields are considered. The dependence of the force on parameters such as detunings, Rabi frequencies and spontaneous decay rates is calculated numerically and shown graphically and analytical expressions for the force are obtained for some special parameter values. It is shown that the radiation pressure shows Doppler-shifted resonance peaks resulting respectively from one-photon and two-photon transitions. Using the present scheme, Doppler cooling of sodium exploiting the 3 2 S 1/2 –3 2 P 3/2 –3 2 D 5/2 cascade transitions is investigated. It is found that temperatures lower than the Doppler limit can be achieved.

Dressed states analysis of lasing without inversion in a three-level ladder system: the steady-state regime

Doron Braunstein, R. Shuker

A dressed-state study of lasing without population inversion from a three-level atom interacting with a bi-chromatic laser field in the ladder configuration is presented. In our model we allow the atom to be dressed by both of the coupling and probe fields. The system under consideration is explored both analytically and numerically within the steady-state regime. A parameter study is performed in which we explore the influence of the change of control parameters (Rabi frequencies and incoherent pump rates, etc) on the system behaviour. The parameter study also applies to situations where both coherent fields have comparable intensities. Expressions for steady-state populations and coherences are derived, from which the constraints on the system control parameters allowing gain or absorption of various types, are calculated. The system is demonstrated to possess gain without inversion (GWI), as well as regular gain with inversion, for the appropriate choice of system control parameters. Inversion without lasing (IWL) is also found. The dressed-state approach offers a different insight into the system dynamics in which Rabi oscillations and spectral features appear natural. We believe that the dressed-state approach provides a more adequate description of the system dynamics than that provided by the bare state basis.
