One Kind of Safer Cryptographic Technique: Quantum Cryptography

Wang A-chuan, Cao Jun

With the development of computer and communication technology, many people pay close attention to information security technology. Considering that the current encryption has many malpractices, some persons turn attention to quantum cryptography. Quantum Key Distribution is based on the principles of Heisenberg's uncertainty which guarantees that no eavesdropper can escape detection. According to this principle, this paper makes a study of the quantum cryptography technique, discusses the course of quantum key production and distribution in the quantum communication and the principle of quantum key distribution protocol in the communication by combining the application of quantum key protocol in the communication network. Current experimental progress on this aspect is introduced, existing problems are analyzed and some constructive suggestions are proposed. Finally, the developing trend for the theory of quantum password is prospected.

Exploring advancements, applications, and challenges in the realm of quantum cryptography

Kaustubh Kumar Shukla, Hari Mohan, Amanzholova Saule Toksanovna +3 more

Quantum cryptography, a burgeoning field at the intersection of theoretical physics and practical cryptography, seeks to revolutionise communication security by harnessing the intricate theories of quantum mechanics. This chapter specifies an outline of the current condition of quantum cryptography research (QCR), spanning theoretical foundations, applications, and future challenges. Key features of QCR, including its security basis, distance limitations, error rates, key generation rates, equipment costs, integration complexity, and maturity level, are discussed. Central to QCR is the utilisation of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle and entanglement to establish communication channels immune to eavesdropping and interception. A popular application of QCR is quantum key distribution (QKD), which utilises photons to generate shared secret keys for encryption. Despite facing challenges such as integration complexity, error rates, and distance restrictions, QCR is rapidly advancing and transitioning from theoretical research to practical industry use. Furthermore, this chapter explores the fundamental differences between quantum and classical cryptography research, highlighting the use of photons and qubits as opposed to classical bits. Key areas of ongoing research in QCR, including the development of quantum networks, encryption techniques, and key distribution protocols, are also examined. Overall, QCR holds promise for improving the safety of digital communication in a period of increasing cyberthreats. As research in this field continues to evolve, key areas of focus include post-quantum cryptography, homomorphic encryption, cryptographic agility, lightweight cryptography, and usable security.

Quantum cryptography is a field of study that explores the use of quantum mechanics to create new cryptographic techniques that are more secure than traditional cryptography. With the advancement of quantum computing technology, the security of many commonly used encryption algorithms is at risk. Quantum cryptography offers a potential solution to this problem by providing a method for secure communication based on the principles of quantum mechanics. In this paper, we will provide an overview of the fundamental concepts of quantum mechanics, their relevance to cryptography, and the most widely used quantum cryptography protocol, Quantum Key Distribution. The paper also examines the security and limitations of Quantum Key Distribution. The paper concludes with a summary of findings and implications for the future of cryptography and information security.
