Young’s double slit experiments have been descripted by wave theories, i.e., before and after passing through a double slit, the light is waves. To test the wave description, we extend the double slit experiments to the comprehensive double slit experiments which are the regular double slit experiments with added either Shield, or Blocker, or Metal tube, or Photon-Chamber, or Lens. The comprehensive double slit experiments show the novel phenomena: (1) the light is particles, not waves, before and after passing through a double slit; (2) it is the particles that form both the non-interference patterns (near the double slit) and interference patterns (near/on the detector) in the same experiment; (3) the non-interference patterns gradually evolve to the interference patterns in the same experiment. We refer to the novel phenomena as “PhotoWave phenomena” which are universal. For studying the wave theory further, we show the Irregular-Double-Slit Experiments including the non-parallel-double slit, curve-double-slit, non-parallel-curve-double slit experiments. The comprehensive-double-slit and irregular-double-slit experiments provide the new phenomena for developing theoretical model to study: (1) the nature of the light; (2) the wave theories of the light; (3) the quantum theory of the light. A complete explanation should describe all of the comprehensive double slit and irregular-double-slit experiments consistently, which is a challenge. The experiments presented in this article: (1) show the new mystery of the double slit experiment in addition to Feynman’s mystery; (2) readily performe in the classe room; (3) inexpensive; (4) encourage and stimulate students interest in optics/physics, incorporate hands-on experiments, spark students’ curiosity.
Young’s double slit experiment and Poisson/Arago spot experiment revived the wave theory of the light. The standard interpretation is that the light behaves as waves. Feynman called the double slit experiment the only mystery in quantum mechanics. Recently, the photon chamber has been proposed and utilized to study the behavior of photons near the detecting screen. The experiments show that the light, near the screen, behaves as photons propagating along the straight-line trajectories, and the trajectories distribute as waves. Furthermore, the photon chamber experiments show that, within certain macroscopic distance from the double slit, the pattern is non-interference, which indicates that the standard double slit experiments violate the standard wave interpretations. In this article, we show, the first time, that, within certain macroscopic distance from the ring, the pattern is non-interference, and how the non-interference pattern (near the ring) evolving to the interference pattern (far from the ring). blob:https://www.techrxiv.org/401bdd50-1361-4e46-892a-577f52ebac33 blob:https://www.techrxiv.org/7b37d541-ca7e-4ea4-ad7e-21e8698dd5b6 The experiments show: (1) the nature of the patterns is distance-dependent; (2) to certain macroscopic distance from the ring, the light beams behave as particle; (3) when the distance increases, the non-interference pattern evolves to the interference pattern, i.e., the non-wave nature and the wave distribution coexist in the same wave experiment. The experiments: (1) provide novel phenomena/data for further theoretical development of the optics and for understanding the nature of the light.

The phenomenon of light duality is a fundamental concept in modern physics that states that light has a dual nature, namely as a wave and a particle. Understanding this concept often becomes a challenge in learning due to the limitations of laboratory facilities to directly observe interference and diffraction phenomena. This study aims to explore the concept of light duality through quantum interference simulations based on a virtual laboratory using PhET Interactive Simulations from the University of Colorado Boulder. The research was conducted in a descriptive-quantitative manner by varying three main parameters, namely the number of slits (1, 2, and 3), slit width (0.04–0.4 mm), and light wavelength (400–700 nm). Each configuration was systematically simulated to observe the resulting diffraction and interference patterns. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive and inferential statistics, including Shapiro-Wilk, Levene, Kruskal-Wallis tests, as well as one-way ANOVA to identify the relationship between optical variables and the characteristics of interference patterns. The research results indicate that with variations in the number and width of slits, light tends to behave like particles with concentrated intensity, whereas with variations in wavelength, the widening light-dark pattern demonstrates wave properties. These findings reinforce the concept of light duality and confirm the effectiveness of virtual laboratories as a learning medium for visually and interactively understanding complex quantum phenomena.
Simulation researches are conducted by mathematical modeling approach through computer for verification wave-particle duality of light.Firsty, the following two models are established:the single slit diffraction simulation model based on Photon hydrogen-like structure, which light change in forward direction after passed the silt is explained. And the double slit interference simulation model based on Photon electromagnetic plane wave concept, whichblack hole effect likeis proposed. Then, the rationality of the models are verified by means of Matlab simulation. Finally, combined with mentioned two models, qualitative analysis show that wave-particle duality of light properly is explained by simulation result.
