Abstract

The autoionization state of barium was observed by optics heterodyne between three-photon resonant nondegenerated six-wave mixing (NSWM) and two-photon resonant nondegenerated four-wave mixing (NFWM). In this way, optics heterodyne spectrum of 6p(3/2) 19d autoionization state of barium was measured. The suppression and enhancement of the NFWM signal was observed which was caused by the quantum interference between NFWM and NSWM. Our method is a pure nonlinear optic technique. It has the advantages of excellent spatial signal resolution and simple optical alignment. Here two-photon resonant NFWM is used as local oscillation, while three-photon resonant NSWM signal is used as signal beam. Detection of autoionization states of Ba was achieved by changing the frequency of signal beam. The phase matching condition of this technique is not so stringent and can be achieved over a very wide frequency range, which is very difficult in the general six-wave mixing. Furthermore, the signal is coherent light. Optics heterodyne spectrum is a Doppler-free spectroscopy when the incident lasers have narrow bandwidths.

We have applied two-photon resonant nondegenerate four-wave mixing (NFWM) with a resonant intermediate state to measure the energy levels of the Ba even-parity J=0 and J=2 series. Differing from other experiment techniques, our method is a pure optical technique. Instead of detecting electrons or ions, the signal here is a coherent light. Two-photon resonant NFWM is a Doppler-free spectroscopy when the incident laser beams have narrow bandwidths.

Two-photon resonant four-wave mixing in a dressed atomic system

Sun Jiang, Zhanchun Zuo, Xin Mi +5 more

We study two-photon resonant nondegenerate four-wave mixing (NFWM) in a dressed cascade four-level system. In the presence of a strong coupling field, the two-photon resonant NFWM spectrum exhibits Autler-Townes splitting, accompanied by either suppression or enhancement of the NFWM signal. Such phenomena are demonstrated in Ba through inducing of atomic coherence between the ground state $6{s}^{2}$ and the doubly excited autoionizing Rydberg state $6pnd$. This technique provides a spectroscopic tool for measuring not only the resonant frequency and dephasing rate but also the transition dipole moment between two highly excited atomic states.

Quantum interference may lead to suppression and enhancement of the two-photon resonant nondegenerate fourwave mixing signal in a cascade four-level system.Such phenomena are demonstrated in Ba through inducing atomic coherence between the ground state 6s^2 and the doubly excited autoionizing Rydberg state 6trod.This method can be used as a new spectroscopic tool for measuring the transition dipole moment between two highly excited atomic states.

Three-Photon Resonant Nondegenerate Six-Wave Mixing in a Dressed Atomic System

We report a three-photon resonant nondegenerate six-wave mixing (NSWM) in a dressed cascade five-level system. It has advantages that phase match condition is not stringent and NSWM signal is enhanced tremendously due to the multiple resonance with the atomic transition frequencies. In the presence of a strong coupling Held, the three-photon resonant NSWM spectrum exhibits Autler-Townes splitting. This technique provides a spectroscopic tool for measuring not only the resonant frequency and dephasing rate but also the transition dipole moment between two highly excited atomic states.

The three-photon resonant nondegenerate six-wave mixing via quantum interference

Juan Sun, Sun Jiang, Ying Wang +2 more

We study the quantum interference in three-photon resonant nondegenerate six-wave mixing (NSWM) in a five-level system in which the middle level of six-wave mixing and other level are coupled by a strong laser field. The coupling field-dependence of the NSWM signal intensity and the spectrum of the NSWM with a coupling field are discussed. We find that in the presence of a strong coupling field, the three-photon resonant NSWM spectrum exhibits Autler-Townes splitting, which reflects the levels of the dressed states. It also leads to either suppression or enhancement of the NSWM signal.
