Abstract

The analytic properties of one-dimensional Schrodinger equation are discussed. The relations between the pole of transmission coefficients and the energy of bound states are obtained. Calculations are performed for an example.

The Schrödinger equation

Kenichi Konishi, Giampiero Paffuti

Abstract In quantum mechanics the dynamics is described by the Schrödinger equation. We first discuss the general properties of the Schrödinger equation and then proceed to illustrate how the quantum mechanical laws introduced in the previous chapter work in concrete physical situations. Both the bound-state problems and scattering processes are analyzed, mainly through various examples of one-dimensional systems.

Bound state eigenvalues from transmission coefficients

Zafar Ahmed, Koushik Bhattacharya

Abstract Experts know that bound state energy eigenvalues of a potential well are poles of its transmission amplitude, t ( E ). The textbooks do well by solving the bound states and scattering states separately, but the connection goes unheeded. Here, we present interesting and instructive illustrations, where we extract bound state eigenvalues from the known transmission coefficients ( T ( E ) = | t ( E )| 2 ) for six analytically solvable potential wells.

Re-discussion on the Bound Energy and Scattering Amplitude Pole by the Schrdinger and the Heisenberg Representation

Wang Zhi-liang

One-dimensional δ-potential well bound state and one-dimensional δ-scattering potential were discussed by Schrdinger and Heisenberg representation in the wave function in the time-dependent state. It is proved more generally that one-dimensional δ-potential well restraint level is the δ-barrier scattering amplitude pole.

Quantum scattering by Wronskians

Francisco Marcelo Fernández

We show that Wronskians between properly chosen linearly independent solutions of the Schrödinger equation greatly facilitate the study of quantum scattering in one dimension. They enable one to obtain the necessary relationships between the coefficients that determine the asymptotic behavior of the wavefunction. As illustrative examples we calculate the transmission probability for the penetration of a Gaussian barrier and the scattering resonances for a Gaussian well.

Uniform solutions for scattering by a potential barrier and bound states of a potential well

Joseph Bishop Keller

The one-dimensional Schrödinger equation is solved asymptotically for scattering of a particle by a potential barrier and for bound states of a potential well, when the potentials change little in a wavelength. Both solutions are represented uniformly in space, rather than nonuniformly as in the WKB method. This avoids matching expansions and using connection formulas. The scattering solution and the complex reflection and transmission coefficients are also uniform in the particle energy.

General recursive solution for one dimensional quantum potentials

Sérgio Luiz Morelhão, André Perrotta

A revision of the recursive method proposed by S.A. Shakir [Am. J.Phys. \textbf{52}, 845 (1984)] to solve bound eigenvalues of the Schrodinger equation is presented. Equations are further simplified and generalized for computing wave functions of any given one-dimensional potential, providing accurate solutions not only for bound states but also for scattering and resonant states, as demonstrated here for a few examples.
