Abstract

To investigate the interaction of a mesoscopic Josephson junction with a single mode quantized electromagnetic field, the diagnonalizing process of the coupled system Hamiltonian was performed by using an unitary transformation. Zero? point energy and zero? point fluctuation of the coupled system were shown. For the ground state of the coupled system, the quantum fluctuations of the flux and charge operators in the field and junction subsystems can exhibit smaller quantum noise than the zero point fluctuations of the individual subsystems. Thus, when the coupled system is in its lowest energy state, which means that no radiation appear, the two subsystems exhibit nonclassical behavior.

Quantum Fluctuation Properties in Mesoscopic Josephson Junction

Zou Jian

An effective bosonic Hamiltonian describing the interaction of a mesoscopic Josephson junction with a quantized radiation field is studied. It is shown that when the field is initially in a coherent state and the junction initially in its lowest energy level state, the state of the coupled field-mesoscopic Josephson junction system can evolve to a squeezed state. A detailed analysis about the quantum fluctuation of the coupled system is given.

Reduced quantum fluctuation in mesoscopic Josephson junction with Schrödinger-cat state field

Shao Bin, Zou Jian

We consider the system of a mesoscopic Josephson junction interacting with a quantized radiation field and investigate the fluctuation properties of the junction variables with time evolution. Our results show that, due to the quantum entanglement between the field and junction, the mesoscopic Josephson junction subsystem can exhibit squeezing behavior.

Quantum fluctuations in a current-biased Josephson junction of small capacitance

A. Tagliacozzo, F. Ventriglia, Peter Apell

Quantum fluctuations of the charge at a current-biased Josephson junction and of the Josephson current couple to the quasiparticle tunneling when the system is at equilibrium in the zero-voltage state. The effect of reducing the capacitance of the junction is studied by means of a model Hamiltonian. When this becomes smaller, charge fluctuations are reduced, but the effective dissipation is also lowered so that the junction displays an underdamped behavior. The Josephson branch is shifted at the voltage e/2C because of charging due to the quasiparticles. A path-integral formulation of the model leads to a high dynamical subgap resistance at I\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0, as recently found experimentally.

Periodic Revivals of Squeezing in a Mesoscopic Josephson Junction

Jian Zou, Bin Shao

The interaction between a mesoscopic Josephson junction and a quantized electromagnetic field is discussed quantum mechanically. Within the external field approximation, it is shown that if the field is prepared in a coherent state and the junction is initially in its lowest energy level, squeezing can occur in such a system.

Dynamic interaction of mesoscopic Josephson junctions with quantized electromagnetic fields

Le‐Man Kuang, Yiwen Wang, Mo‐Lin Ge

Dynamic evolution of a mesoscopic Josephson junction (MJJ) interacting with quantized electromagnetic fields (QEMF) is investigated. It is shown that the current-voltage steps of the MJJ can reflect quantum coherences of the external QEMF; these characteristics may be used to distinguish different types of quantum electromagnetic fields. It is found that supercurrent fluctuations exhibit periodic oscillations in the time evolution. Supercurrent correlation functions are also studied in some detail. It is shown that the thermal noise in the external electromagnetic field seriously affects the second-order correlation function of the supercurrent. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Squeezing Properties in Mesoscopic Josephson Junction with Nonclassical Radiation Field

Shao Bin, Zou Jian, Qian‐Shu Li

We consider a system of mesoscopic Josephson junction interacting with nonclassical radiation field and investigate any order squeezing for the mesoscopic Josephson junction subsystem. Our results show that if the field is initially prepared in a squeezed vacuum and the junction is in its lowest energy state (the vacuum state), then as the time evolves the Josephson junction subsystem can exhibit any order squeezing.
