Abstract

The spin-1/2 quantum Heisenberg ferromagnet with anisotropic spin exchange interactions in one dimension is investigated by means of the Green's function method and the spin-wave theory. In this paper we use the Holstein-Primakoff transformation to get the approximately Hamiltonian. We show that the magnetic field and anisotropy can have a rather drastic effect on the correlation functions and susceptibilities in the low-temperature region. Our results show that inverse correlation lengths kx and ky are independent of the temperature in the weak magnetic field. kx is less dependent on the anisotropy than ky. These results are consistent with the theoretical and experimental results.

Magnetic Properties of One-Dimensional Ferromagnetic Mixed-Spin Model within Tyablikov Decoupling Approximation

Yuan Chen, Xiang Ying, Chuang-Chuang Song

In this paper, we apply the two-time Green's function method, and provide a simple way to study the magnetic properties of one-dimensional spin-(S,s) Heisenberg ferromagnets. The magnetic susceptibility and correlation functions are obtained by using the Tyablikov decoupling approximation. Our results show that the magnetic susceptibility and correlation length are a monotonically decreasing function of temperature regardless of the mixed spins. It is found that in the case of S=s, our results of one-dimensional mixed-spin model is reduced to be those of the isotropic ferromagnetic Heisenberg chain in the whole temperature region. Our results for the susceptibility are in agreement with those obtained by other theoretical approaches.

We use the Quantum Monte Carlo Stochastic Series Expansion (SSE) algorithm to investigate the properties of the one-dimensional Heisenberg ferromagnet. We consider the model for two spin values s = 1 2 and s = 1 and study the dependence of the specific heat, magnetisation, magnetic susceptibility and correlation functions on temperature and magnetic field.Obtained results are compared to those derived by analytical methods (Bethe ansatz, Green's function, Random Phase Approximation). In particular, the surprising prediction of a double-peak structure in the specific heat at low temperatures and small magnetic fields can be confirmed.

Magnetic properties of quantum Heisenberg ferromagnets with long-range interactions

Hiroki Nakano, Masahiro Takahashi

Quantum Heisenberg ferromagnets with long-range interactions in low dimensions are inves- tigated by means of the Green's frunction method. The model Hamiltonian is given by scrH=-(${\mathit{J}}_{0}$/2)${\mathcal{J}}_{\mathit{i}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\ne}}\mathit{j}}$${\mathit{r}}_{\mathit{i}\mathit{j}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathit{p}}$${\mathbf{S}}_{\mathit{i}}$\ensuremath{\cdot}${\mathbf{S}}_{\mathit{j}}$ -H${\mathcal{J}}_{\mathit{j}}$${\mathit{S}}_{\mathit{j}}^{\mathit{z}}$. It is shown that there exists a finite-temperature phase transition in the region dp2d for the d-dimensional case and that no transitions at any finite temperature exist for p\ensuremath{\ge}2d; the critical temperature is also estimated. We study the magnetic properties of this model. We calculate the critical exponents' dependence on p; these exponents also satisfy a scaling relation. Some of the results were also found using the modified spin-wave theory and are in remarkable agreement with each other.

Thermodynamics of the frustrated one-dimensional spin- 12 Heisenberg ferromagnet in a magnetic field

M. Härtel, Johannes Richter, Dieter Ihle

We calculate the low-temperature thermodynamic quantities (magnetization, correlation functions, transverse and longitudinal correlation lengths, spin susceptibility, and specific heat) of the frustrated one-dimensional spin-half ${J}_{1}$-${J}_{2}$ Heisenberg ferromagnet, i.e., for ${J}_{2}<0.25|{J}_{1}|$, in an external magnetic field using a second-order Green-function formalism and full diagonalization of finite systems. We determine power-law relations for the field dependence of the position and the height of the maximum of the uniform susceptibility. Considering the specific heat at low magnetic fields, two maxima in its temperature dependence are found.

Green’s function study of one-dimensional spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg ferromagnets

W. J. Zhang, J. L. Shen, Jian Xu +1 more

The one-dimensional spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg ferromagnets are studied by the Green's function method at finite temperatures. The Green's function is decoupled in terms of the correlation functions of 〈${\mathit{S}}_{0}^{\mathit{z}}$${\mathit{S}}_{\mathit{n}}^{\mathit{z}}$〉 and 〈${\mathit{S}}_{0}^{+}$${\mathit{S}}_{\mathit{n}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$〉 under the constraint of 〈${\mathit{S}}^{\mathit{z}}$〉=0, from which a set of self-consistent equations are derived and solved numerically. The thermodynamic properties such as internal energy, specific heat, and zero-field parallel susceptibility are calculated. Our results predict the correct behavior for the correlation functions and thermodynamic quantities in the entire temperature region, in agreement both with the exact numerical results on the finite chain and the experimental data.

Low-temperature thermodynamic properties of a random anisotropic antiferromagnetic chain

J. E. Hirsch

The low-temperature thermodynamic properties of a spin-\textonehalf{} one-dimensional random anisotropic (Heisenberg-Ising) antiferromagnet described by the Hamiltonian $H=\ensuremath{\Sigma}{i}^{}{J}_{i}({\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{x}^{i}{\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{x}^{i+1}+{\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{y}^{i}{\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{y}^{i+1}+\ensuremath{\gamma}{\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{z}^{i}{\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{z}^{i+1})$ are studied as a function of disorder and anisotropy. The ${J}_{i}>~0$ are independent random variables obeying a probability distribution $P(J)$, and $0<~\ensuremath{\gamma}<~\ensuremath{\infty}$. The approach used is a numerical implementation of a real-space renormalization-group (RG) method previously introduced. The isotropic Heisenberg case ($\ensuremath{\gamma}=1$), the $\mathrm{XY}$ case ($\ensuremath{\gamma}=0$). and the Ising case ($\ensuremath{\gamma}=\ensuremath{\infty}$) are fixed points of the RG transformation. It is found that in the $\mathrm{XY}$ region $\ensuremath{\gamma}<~1$, including the Heisenberg point, the system exhibits singular behavior in the thermodynamic properties for arbitrary probability distributions for the couplings. For the $\mathrm{XY}$ limit ($\ensuremath{\gamma}=0$) this is in agreement with known exact results. The functional form for the low-temperature susceptibility is found to be $\ensuremath{\chi}\ensuremath{\sim}\frac{1}{(T{\mathrm{ln}}^{m}(\frac{T}{{T}_{0}}))}$ in the entire region $0<~\ensuremath{\gamma}<~1$ for arbitrary probability distributions. In the Ising region ($\ensuremath{\gamma}>1$) the susceptibility shows an approximate power-law divergence for small anisotropy but goes eventually to zero as $T\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0$. Possible relevance of these results to recent experiments on Qn${(\mathrm{TCNQ})}_{2}$ is discussed.
