Abstract

The emission spectrum of a single atom in the nonlinear coupling J-C (Jaynes-Cummings) model including any forms of nonlinearities of both the field and the intensity-dependent atom-field coupling is studied. The effects of nonlinearities on the spectrum are demonstrated. It is shown that features of the emission spectrum are influenced significantly by the kinds of the field nonlinearity term R(a+a) and the intensity-dependent atom-field nonlinear coupling factor f(a+a).The structure of the spectrum is quite different from that of the standard J-C model. It is found that when f(a+a)=1/(a+a)1/2,the emission spectra always show the definite three-peak structure for any initial state of the field, which implies that the effects on the emission spectrum of both the specific intensity-dependent nonlinear medium with f(a+a)=1/(a+a)1/2 and the initial field photon statistics can be counterbalanced. This feature is analyzed with an analytic method.

Emission spectrum of two-mode nonlinear Jaynes-Cummings model

Jian Feng, Gao Yun-feng, Mingsheng Zhan

The emission spectrum of a single atom in a two-mode Jaynes-Cummings model including any form of nonlinearity of both the two-mode fields and the intensity-dependent atom-field coupling is studied. A general expression for the emission spectrum is given as an explicit function of any nonlinear terms presented in the model. The effects of the nonlinearities on the spectrum are demonstrated for several important examples. It is shown that features of the emission spectrum are influenced significantly by the kinds of intensity-dependent atom-field coupling and the nonlinearities of the two-mode fields. It is also found in an analytic way that the effects on the emission spectrum of both the specific intensity-dependent nonlinear medium and the initial two-mode field photon statistics can be counterbalanced in some special cases.

Influence of Kerr effect on atom emission spectra of nonlinear Jaynes-Cummings model

Gao Yun-feng

The atom emission spectra of a nonlinear Jaynes-Cummings model with an additional Kerr medium are investigated. The emission spectrum expression is derived. The numerical results for the initial field in pure number state, coherent state and squeezed vacuum state are calculated, respectively. The influences of Kerr effect and initial field intensity on the spectrum structure are discussed. It is found that Kerr medium affects the symmetry of the spectrum structure for all initial field states except vacuum. When the initial field is pure number state, all peaks of the spectra shift toward right and the left peak(s) rise and right peaks decline along with accretion of Kerr effect. When the initial field is coherent state, two complicated multi-peak structure each like an arched comb appears for strong field. The Kerr effect makes left peaks higher and right peaks lower. When the initial field is squeezed vacuum state, only left sideband appears. The peak-number of the sideband increases due to the accretion of the Kerr effect or the initial field intensity.

Atomic Emission and Cavity Field Spectra in the Λ-type Three-level Jaynes-Cummings Model with Intensity-dependent Coupling

Qingchun Zhou

The eigenfunction method is adopted to investigate atomic emission and cavity field spectra in the system containing a Λ-type three-level atom resonantly' interacting with a single-mode field. The atom is assumed initially in the upper atomic state and intensity-dependent coupling is taken into account. It is found that the splitting between the lower levels has a great influence on the spectral structure for both the emission spectrum and the cavity field spectrum.Combination of spectral lines does not take place with increasing intensity of the initial field and the cavity spectrum is not sensitive to the statistics of the initial field.

Emission Spectra of a Two-level Atom in a Kerr-like Medium

Vladimír Bužek, Igor Jex

We have investigated the spectrum of light emitted by a single atom interacting with a single mode of the radiation field in an ideal cavity filled with a Kerr-like medium. It is shown that owing to the Kerr-like nonlinearity in the system the spectrum of the emitted light exhibits a single-peaked structure for sufficiently high intensities of the initial coherent field instead of the triplet structure in the case of the standard Jaynes-Cummings model.

Emission and absorption spectra of a general formalism Ξ-type three-level atom driven by a single-mode field with nonlinearities

A.‐S. F. Obada, A. A. Eied, G. M. Abd Al-Kader

We study the interaction of a three-level atom with a single-mode field in a cavity. We take explicitly into account the existence of the forms of nonlinearities of both the field and the intensity-dependent atom-field coupling. The wavefunction for the atomic system of the Ξ configuration is obtained when the atom is initially prepared in the excited state. The electromagnetic field may assume a squeezed coherent or binomial state. The analytical forms of the fluorescence and absorption spectra are calculated using the dressed states of the system. We investigate the influences of the mean number of photons, detunings, and the nonlinearities forms on the spectrum of the resulting field states. It is shown that the features of the fluorescence and absorption spectra are influenced significantly by the kinds of nonlinearities.

Fluorescence Spectrum of an Atom Interacting with a Quantized Cavity Field with Arbitrary Nonlinearities

Mahmoud Abdel‐Aty, Tarek M. El-Shahat, A.‐S. F. Obada

We present a detailed theory of a general formalism of a nonlinear JC-model. In particular we explicitly take into account forms of nonlinearities of both the field and the intensity-dependent atom-field coupling and study the properties of the fluorescence spectrum in this system. The exact solution for time-dependence of the atom-field system is obtained, by means of which we analyze the analytic form of the fluorescence spectrum produced by an atom in an ideal cavity using the transitions among the dressed states of the system. We investigate the influences of the nonlinearities on the fluorescence spectrum, for initial squeezed, thermal and coherent states. It is shown that features of the fluorescence spectrum are significantly influenced by the kinds of nonlinearities of the single-mode field.
