Abstract

We apply nondegenerate four-wave mixing processes to the generation of squeezed light and study the evolution of squeezed light with time.We get the master equation of the two-mode field. We also show that the two-mode cavity field exhibits stable squeezing under some conditions. The degree of the squeezing is dependent upon the two photon intensity I2,the cooperativity parameter C and the side-mode detuning.

Generation of squeezed states by nondegenerate multiwave mixing in two-level media

David A. Holm, M. Sargent, Barbara A. Capron

Using our quantum theory of multiwave mixing, we derive formulas for the intracavity squeezed variances generated by nondegenerate four-wave mixing in a cavity and illustrate the results with variance spectra as functions of side-mode/pump beat frequency.

Quantum theory of nondegenerate multiwave mixing: effect of pump phase fluctuations

A. H. Toor, Muhammad Suhail Zubairy

We extend the quantum theory of nondegenerate four-wave mixing by including the effects of the finite bandwidth of the driving-pump field. The interaction of a beam of two-level atoms with the two opposite driving-pump fields that have finite bandwidth inside a bimodal cavity is considered. The master equation for the cavity-field modes, averaged over the stochastic process, is derived. We use our theory to study the effects of phase fluctuations, associated with the driving-pump field, on the generation of two-mode squeezing inside the cavity. The steady-state squeezing is achieved with the same driving-pump field as a local oscillator in the balanced homodyne-detection system. Our results show that, in spite of instantaneous phase locking between the cavity field and the local oscillator, the time-delay effects associated with the exponential decay of atomic coherence relate the steady-state squeezing to the diffusion constant of the driving-pump field.

Enhancement of entanglement for two-mode fields generated from four-wave mixing with the help of the auxiliary atomic transition

Gao‐xiang Li, Hua-Tang Tan, Mihai Macovei

The entanglement properties of two mode fields generated from four-wave mixing are discussed in the system of an ensemble of $V$-type three-level atoms embedded in a two-mode cavity, in which the atomic transitions from the two excited states to the ground state are driven by one strong and one relative weak laser field, respectively. The nondegenerate four-wave mixing process occurs in the strong laser-driven transition, which is also coupled by the two cavity modes. With the help of the auxiliary atomic transition driven by the weak laser field and adjusting the frequency difference of the two modes, highly squeezed and entangled light with high intensity can be generated.

Parametric oscillation in four-wave mixing with nondegenerate pumping

Gagik Yu. Kryuchkyan, K. G. Petrosyan, Karen V. Kheruntsyan

A theoretical investigation is made of parametric generation of light by four-wave mixing in an optical cavity with two pump fields of different frequencies. Mixing configurations resulting in the excitation of one and three cavity modes are considered taking into account the effects of phase modulation and of depletion of the pump fields. An analysis is made of stable steady-state oscillation regimes. Calculations are reported of the intensities of the generated radiation modes at the exit from the cavity above the threshold. An analysis is made of the conditions for the appearance of optical bistability at nonzero values of the cavity detuning.
