Emergence of the Macroscopic Quantum Superposition State in Microtubules

T.R. Wu, Keming Ren, Qiu Xijun

Many researchers conceive communication in Microtubules (MTs), and established theoretical models to show both classical and quantum information processing. In this paper, we studied the usually neglected interactions between the electronic dipole of water molecules in microtubules and the quantized electromagnetic radiation field. We find that the emergence collective coherent radiation, and it can turn into macroscopic quantum superposition state when passing through MTs. This could have a fundamental role in the quantum information processing.

Quantum properties of light in the two-photon T-C model in Kerr medium

Fang Jia-Yuan, Xiaohong Yan, Ming Tao Zhou +2 more

In this paper, the quantum properties of light in a system of two coupling atoms interacting with a single-model squeezed vacuum field at the two-photon transition in Kerr medium are studied by means of quantum theory. The influences of the Kerr medium and the dipole-dipole interaction between atoms are discussed. The results show that when the Kerr effect and the dipole-dipole interaction between atoms may be neglected, the fluctuation of U2 can be squeezed periodically. With increasing the Kerr effect and the dipole-dipole interaction between atoms, the squeezing effect of light gradually becomes weak and the squeezing time of light gradually decreases. The periodical collapse-revival phenomenon of the time evolution of the second-order coherence degree of the field appears, which is caused by the influence of the Kerr effect and the dipole-dipole interaction between atoms. No matter how large are the coupling constants, the photon bunching always appears.

Radiation field quantization in a nonlinear dielectric with dispersion and absorption

Eduard Schmidt, Knoell, Ludwig, Welsch, Dirk-Gunnar

The problem of quantizing the radiation field inside a nonlinear dielectric is studied. Based on the quantization of radiation in a linear dielectric which includes absorption and dispersion, we extend the theory in order to treat also nonlinear optical processes. We derive propagation equations in space and time for the quantized radiation field including the effects of linear absorption and dispersion as well as nonlinear optical effects. As a special case we derive the propagation equation of a narrow-frequency band light pulse in a Kerr medium.

Local-field effect and interaction of dense Bose-Einstein condensate with an electromagnetic field

Konstantin V. Krutitsky, Frank Burgbacher, Juergen Audretsch

We have developed the quantum theory of the interaction of ultracold atomic ensemble with the electromagnetic field of vacuum and laser photons. The main attention is paid to the consistent consideration of dynamical dipole-dipole interactions in the case of the second quantized matter. We show that the retardation effects significantly influence the behavior of atomic ensemble in the radiation field. We have derived the general system of equations, which can be used for the investigation of various linear and nonlinear phenomena in atom optics. As an example, we have considered the diffraction of ultracold atomic beam by the standard laser wave. We show that with the increase of the initial density of the intensities of diffractions modes decrease. We also show that the angles of diffraction for different modes depend on the density.

Quantum Mechanical Analysis of the Interaction of Laser Radiation with Electric Dipole Resonances

Robert P. Lucht

The subject of this chapter is the quantum mechanical analysis of the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with atomic transitions. The analysis is based on the Schrödinger wave equation, and in the first section, the gauge-invariant form of the external electromagnetic field is introduced. The electric dipole interaction and the long-wavelength approximation for the analysis of this interaction are discussed. The perturbative analysis of both single-photon and two-photon electric dipole interactions is presented, and density matrix analysis is introduced. The interaction of radiation with the resonances of atomic hydrogen is then discussed. The analysis is performed for both coupled and uncoupled representations. In the last section of the chapter, the radiative interactions for multielectron atoms are discussed. The Wigner–Eckart theorem and selection rules for transitions between levels characterized by coupling are developed. The effect of hyperfine splitting on radiative transitions is also briefly discussed.

The time evolution of the atomic dipole squeezing in the system of two coupling atoms interacting with single-mode field in two-photon transition in Kerr medium are studied by means of quantum theory. The influences of the Kerr medium and single-mode field coupling constant and the dipole-dipole interaction between atoms are discussed.
