Tanner (3, 23)-Regular QC-LDPC Codes: Cycle Structure and Girth Distribution

Qi Wang, Jingping Che, Huaan Li +3 more

This paper studies on a class of quasi-cyclic LDPC (QC-LDPC) codes, i.e., Tanner (3, 23)-regular QC-LDPC codes of code length 23pwithpbeing a prime andp≡ 1 (mod 69). We first analyze the cycle structure of Tanner (3, 23)-regular QC-LDPC codes, and divide their cycles of lengths 4, 6, 8, and 10 into five equivalent types. We propose the sufficient and necessary condition for the existence of these five types of cycles, i.e., the polynomial equations in a 69th unit root of the prime field Fp. We check the existence of solutions for such polynomial equations by using the Euclidean division algorithm and obtain the candidate girth values of Tanner (3, 23)-regular QC-LDPC codes. We summarize the results and determine the girth distribution of Tanner (3, 23)-regular QC-LDPC codes.

AN EFFICIENT ALGORITHM FOR COUNTING CYCLES IN QC AND APM LDPC CODES

Mohammad Gholami, Zahra Gholami

In this paper, a new method is given for counting cycles in the Tanner graph of a (Type-I) quasi-cyclic (QC) low-density parity-check (LDPC) code which the complexity mainly is dependent on the base matrix, independent from the CPM-size of the constructed code. Interestingly, for large CPM-sizes, in comparison of the existing methods, this algorithm efficiently counts the cycles of any lengths in the Tanner graphs of QC-LDPC codes. In fact, the algorithm recursively counts the cycles in the paritycheck matrix column-by-column by finding all non-isomorph tailless backtrackless closed (TBC) walks in the base graph and enumerating theoretically their corresponding cycles in the same equivalent class. Moreover, this approach can be modified in few steps to find the cycle distributions of a class of LDPC codes based on Affine permutation matrices (APM-LDPC codes). Interestingly, unlike the existing methods which count the cycles up to 2g - 2, where g is the girth, the proposed algorithm can be used to enumerate the cycles of arbitrary length in the Tanner graph. Moreover, the proposed cycle searching algorithm improves upon various previously known methods, in terms of computational complexity and memory requirements.

Construction of a class of quasi-cyclic LDPC codes

Tang Yuan-shen

This paper constructs Partially Balanced Incomplete Block Designs (PBIBD) based on finite fields, and uses them to construct regular Low-Density Parity-Check(LDPC) codes. The constructed LDPC codes are free of 4-cycles and with high flexibility for the choosing of the code rate.Further, the paper even constructs QC-LDPC codes with girth at least 8,they can also be quasi-cyclic.Simulation results show that some of the codes can have slightly better performance than random regular LDPC codes over AWGN channel.
