Abstract

In the quantum mechanics, the whole characteristic can be reflected well using the operator.Meanwhile, the mechanical properties can be distilled from the wave function by the operator. When solving or inferring the relation of operators,we not only grasp the significance and property of the related operator, but also understand some basic operational methods of operator. This paper introduces several common operational methods of operator in the quantum mechanics through giving examples.Such as the direct, functional, parameter differential, undetermined operator, integral transform, mathematical induction methods and so on.

- Operators, Eigenvalues and Eigenfunctions

S. Rajasekar, R. Velusamy

A basic quantity in quantum mechanics is the wave function ψ. Given a quantum mechanical system we write the Schrödinger equation for it. Its solution is the wave function. When introducing the wave function we stated that the maximum information about the state of a system can be obtained only from ψ. How do we extract observable properties of the system from the wave function? In quantum mechanics for every classical dynamical variable there exists an operator. For example, the operator of momentum p is −i~∇ while the operator of energy variable H = p2/(2m)+V (X) is −(~2/2m)∇2+V (X). Operation of an operator on ψ gives another function. If the new function is λψ, then λ is the eigenvalue of the operator. For example, the energy of a particle in a particular state represented by ψ can be obtained by operating H on ψ. That is, we have Hψ = Eψ where E is the energy eigenvalue. The expectation value of A(X,p) can be obtained from the formula 〈A〉 = ∫ ∞ −∞ ψ∗Aψ dτ , (3.1) where ψ is the solution of the equation Hψ = Eψ. Operators in quantum mechanics which represent observables are of a spe- cial type: They are linear and Hermitian. Such operators not only form computation tools, but also form the most effective language in terms of which the theory can be formulated. The fascinating point is that using linear operators we can understand the quantum mechanics. Therefore, it is important to study the basic theory of linear operators. In this chapter, we present important properties of linear operators and their eigenfunctions. We discuss the features of various operators which are necessary for studying quantum and ematical structure of quantum mechanics is.

Fundamentals of Quantum Mechanics

Arpitha Vasudev, Anusha G S, Jayalakshmi B +2 more

Quantum Mechanics is one of the most important scientific developments of the twentieth century. It serves as the basis for understanding how matter and energy behave on very small scales. Unlike classical mechanics, quantum mechanics explains physical phenomena through probabilistic models, wave functions, operators, and discrete quantized states. This paper offers a thorough study of the fundamentals of quantum mechanics, covering its historical background, postulates, mathematical framework, wave-particle duality, Schrödinger equation, uncertainty principle, and operator theory. The paper also looks at how quantum mechanics is used in modern technologies such as quantum computing, lasers, semiconductors, and medical imaging. The goal of this paper is to provide a clear and detailed foundation for students and researchers who want to grasp the main principles of quantum theory. General Terms Quantum Mechanics, Physics, Wave Function, Uncertainty, Quantum Theory, Measurement, Operators.

Fundamentals of Quantum Mechanics

Ajit Kumar

This book is a comprehensive text in the field of quantum mechanics, covering fundamental concepts including the state of a quantum mechanical system, operators, superposition principle and measurement postulate. The notion of an operator and the algebra of operators are introduced with the help of elementary concepts of mathematical analysis. Mathematical tools developed will help readers in understanding the difficulties encountered in classical physics while trying to explain the experimental results involving atomic spectra and other phenomena. The differential equations that arise while solving eigenvalue problems are solved rigorously, to make the text self-sufficient. The solutions are then physically interpreted and explained. The text offers solved examples, analogous and homework problems to help students in solving practical problems of physics requiring quantum mechanical treatment.

Study of the Features and Properties of Greens Functions of Macroscopic Quantum Systems

Т. Б. Қоштыбаев, Sh. Aliev, А.Т. Жавлиева +1 more

This article is devoted to the theoretical investigation of processes in macroscopic systems based on wave particle duality and quantum statistical distributions using the Green’s function method. In particular, it pro vides a detailed description of the properties and characteristics of the Green’s function for an ideal Fermi liquid, single- and two-particle Green’s functions, as well as Green’s functions at limiting temperatures and for the Dirac and Schrödinger equations. The study analyzes the application of the Green’s function method to processes in many-particle quantum systems and to solving equations that describe the constituent particles of such systems. For a given operator and set of boundary conditions, a Green’s function can be defined, al lowing the solution of the corresponding equation to be expressed in integral form. A distinctive feature of this method is the application of mathematical-physics tools, such as Fourier methods, integral transforms, special functions, and mathematical analysis, to problems in quantum physics governed by the principles of quantum and statistical mechanics. The relevance of this study stems from the application of the Green’s function method to the analysis of quantum phenomena. This approach is considered one of the effective methods for solving partial differential equations describing various physical processes. It involves transform ing the original differential equation into an equivalent integral equation involving Green’s functions, which can then be solved. The transformation involves passing to the momentum representation and applying Fouri er transforms using methods of complex analysis.

Operator Methods and Postulates of Quantum Mechanics

Vinod Kumar Khanna

An overview of main operators in quantum mechanics is presented. Operators for position, linear momentum, kinetic energy, potential energy, total energy, and angular momentum are introduced. Properties of linear operators are described. Commutative property of operators has profound implications because a pair of non-commutative operators cannot be measured accurately at the same time. Eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of an operator are defined, and operator form of Schrodinger’s equation is given. Most operators in quantum mechanics are of the Hermitian category because they always have real eigenvalues. The condition to test Hermitian nature of operators is specified. Postulates of quantum mechanics are stated to serve as a convenient starting point.
