The normalization of wave functions of the continuous spectrum

Marcos Amaku, Francisco Antônio Bezerra Coutinho, F. Masafumi Toyama

The continuous spectrum of a quantum mechanical (QM) system contains important information on the system. However, the normalization of wave functions of the continuous spectrum is often difficult and therefore is often omitted from the books on QM. We discuss this problem and show how we can overcome this problem technically, with some examples.

Continuity of Wave-function and Its First Rank Differential

Fang Jing-huai

According to mathematical principles the article rigidly deduces from Schrodinger equation the continuity conditions of wave-function and its first rank differential. They will continue if potential function continues,or if it doesn't continue but has a bound in the contiguity of the discontinuous point. However, the continuity of wave-function and its first rank differential will be uncertain if potential function is discontinuous, and boundless in the contiguity of the discontinuous point.

Viewpoint: Undoing a quantum measurement

Christoph Bruder, Daniel Loss

Quantum measurements are conventionally thought of as irretrievably “collapsing” a wave function to the observed state. However, experiments with superconducting qubits show that the partial collapse resulting from a weak continuous measurement can be restored.
