Abstract

Quantum impurity models have deep connection with the boundary problem.Low-dimensional materials have been an additional source of motivation to investigate onedimensional exactly solvable models. We will study the common Hubbard model, and then study the Hubbard model with open boundary conditions.

The One-Dimensional Hubbard Model

Fabian H. L. Eßler, Holger Frahm, Frank Göhmann +2 more

The description of solids at a microscopic level is complex, involving the interaction of a huge number of its constituents, such as ions or electrons. It is impossible to solve the corresponding many-body problems analytically or numerically, although much insight can be gained from the analysis of simplified models. An important example is the Hubbard model, which describes interacting electrons in narrow energy bands, and which has been applied to problems as diverse as high-Tc superconductivity, band magnetism, and the metal-insulator transition. This 2005 book presents a coherent, self-contained account of the exact solution of the Hubbard model in one dimension. The early chapters will be accessible to beginning graduate students with a basic knowledge of quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics. The later chapters address more advanced topics, and are intended as a guide for researchers to some of the more topical results in the field of integrable models.

Symmetry and integrability in the anyon-Hubbard model

Martin Bonkhoff, Grennon Gurney, Friethjof Theel +3 more

Recent cold atom experiments have realized one-dimensional anyons and enabled the tuning of 1D~statistics between bosons and fermions. Here, we analyze the symmetries, integrability, and resulting degeneracies of the underlying anyon-Hubbard model of finite length. Our results reveal a switching between symmetry classes AI, BDI, and CI in dependence on system size, particle number, and boundary conditions, and show that two anyons with periodic boundaries are integrable, while two anyons with open boundary conditions are not. We include a comprehensive analysis of all model limits, especially of interacting bosons and pseudofermions and resolve spectral signatures. We additionally reveal an exactly solvable doublon state that hides in the continuum of scattering states and the exact solution of the nullspace of two noninteracting anyons. The uncovered symmetries shape the fundamental properties of the one-dimensional anyons at hand, and the predicted states are accessible in state-of-the-art experiments.
