Abstract

The effects of the frequency modulation of the probing and coupling light-fields are discussed in a three energy-level Λ-system. By adjusting the modulation frequency and the index of the modulation properly, we can draw a conclusion that the number of particles trapped changes regularly with time.In certain conditions the susceptibility of the system in the steady state is given.

The frequency modulation effects of the probe field in three level Λ-system

Han Ding-An, Hong Guo, Hui Sun +2 more

In this paper, the frequency modulation effect of the probe field in a three-level Λ system is discussed. According to the classical equation of motion for the electron, the dielectric susceptibility of the medium is not affected by frequency modulation. Based on the quantum theory and the frequency modulation term expanded in terms of Bessel functions, the effects of the frequency modulation of the probe field on the system are studied, in which, when the modulation frequency of the probe field is large enough, the periodical population evolutions exist in three levels. Meanwhile, the stationary susceptibility of the probe field is given.

Nonlinear interference effects in different types of three-level quantum systems

A. A. Orudzhev, Inna L. Plastun, Vladimir Leonardovich Derbov

Coherent population trapping (CPT) resonance formation is modeled numerically in a three-level Λ- and Ξ- systems with one of the near-resonance fields being frequency-modulated. The model is based on density matrix equations in RW approximation with atomic relaxation properly taken into account. Slow modulation is shown to be equivalent to CW excitation with the frequency changed point by point. As the modulation period approaches the relaxation times, the delayed response of the system is shown to cause the CPT resonance shift and reshaping, as well as the appearance of transient oscillations of the energy level populations.

Nonlinear Susceptibilities in a Three-Level Atomic System

Nadeem A. Ansari, R.A. Sammut

We have studied the effect of the propagation of two strong fields of different frequencies on the nonlinear susceptibility in a medium composed of identical stationary three-level atoms in V-configuration. In particular, we show that each field influences the steady-state susceptibility, absorption and refractive-index change experienced by the other field. At large field strengths of one field, the second field experiences less absorption and an enhanced refractive index change.

Quantum properties of the binomial states field interacting with a Λ-type three-level atom

Cui Ying-hua

The quantum properties of light in the system of Λ-type three-level atom interacting with radiation fields in binomial states are studied by means of quantum theory. The influences of the initial states of the Λ-type three-level atom and the parameter of the binomial optical fields on squeezing of the optical field and the second-order coherence degree are investigated in detail. As the detuning parameter of atom A and the parameter of the binomial optical fieldηare small, bunching and antibunching effect can be exhibited alternatively. With the increase of the parameters, the light field shows antibunching effect completely. If the detuning parameter of atomΔand the parameterηare chosen appropriately, the component X_1 of the light field in the coupling system will be squeezed during the certain time. The results indicate that the light field shows squeezing effects and continuous antibunching effect under a certain condition as it interactes with a A-type three-level atom.
