Abstract

The intensity of correlation function and signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)of an aborptive optical bistability system driven by a periodic signal are studied.from analyzing the SNR,the stochastic resonance phynomenon of SNR with the change of pump noise self-correlation time was found, both decreasing the intensity of quantum noise and increasing the intensity of pump noise, can increase the stochastic resonance phynomenon.

The Dynamic Behavior of the Optical Bistability System Driven by Two Colored Noises

Qinghua Cheng

By adopting the linear approximation method, the signal-to-noise ratio of optical bistability system driven by colored pump noise and colored quantum noise was calculated. The influence on the signal-to-noise ratio of the pump noise intensity(P),quantum noise intensity(Q),pump noise self-correlation time (τ1) and quantum noise self-correlation time (τ2) was studied. The stochastic resonance was found in the curve of signal-to-noise ratio R versus the pump noise self-correlation time (τ1) was discussed, while the great influence on the stochastic resonance is posed by quantum noise self-correlation time, when (τ2) increases, the curve of signal-to-noise ratio R versus the pump noise self-correlation time (τ1) upgrates integratedly, and resonance-peak increases. It could prolong the quantum noise self-correlation time (τ2) to increase the signal-to-noise ratio R.There is a maximum in the curve of signal-to-noise ratio R versus the parameter of the optical bistability system c,while pump noise self-correlation time (τ1) greatly influences the curve of signal-to-noise ratio R versus the parameter of the optical bistability system c. With the increase of pump noise self-correlation time (τ1),the maximum declines and the curve becomes flat.It is indicated that the signal-to-noise ratio increases through reducing the pump noise self-correlation time (τ1).Besides,signal-to-noise ratio R monotonously increases with the increase of pump noise intensity P,and motonously decreases with the increase of quantum noise intensity Q.

Stochastic Resonance in Optical Bistable System Driven by Colored Pump Noise with Bias Signal Modulating

Gui Di

In the optical bistable system driven by colored pump noise with the bias signal modulating, the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) is caculated with the linear approximation method, and the influence on SNR imposed by the bias signal, noise,as well as the correlation of the noise is discussed. The stochastic resonance(SR) is observed both in the curves of the SNR versus the pump noise and the quantum noise.Besides, the great influence on the SNR imposed by the correlation coefficient is found between the pump noise and the quantum noise.

Stochastic resonance in optical bistable system

Ning Li-Juan, Xu Wei, 西北工业大学应用数学系,西安 710072

The stochastic resonance (SR) in an optical bistable system under the simultaneous action of multiplicative and additive noises and periodic signal is studied using the adiabatic approximation theory. The signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)is a non-monotonic function of intensity of additive noise, in which the SR phenomenon appears. The SNR decreased with the intensity of multiplicative noise, and SR phenomenon does not appear. So the effects of additive and multiplicative noise on the output SNR are different.

Stochastic Resonance and Simulation of a Single-mode Laser System with Periodically Modulated Signal

Wang Guowei, Fu Yan

The time evolution of intensity correlation functionin a single-mode laser driven by the coloured pump noise with signal modulation and the quantum noise with cross-correlation between the real and imaginary parts is studied by using the linear approximation method. In the case of the pump noise self-correlation time 1 << τ , it can be found that: (i)when modulation signal frequency Ω increases, the time evolution ofexperiences a changing process, that is, from the monotonous descending to the descending after the appearance of an initial flat, and finally to the periodically surging with descending envelope; (ii)When the net gain 0 a increases, it experiences a repeatedly changing process, that is, from the monotonous descending to monotonous rise, and to the appearance of a maximum, finally to monotonous descending again. However, in the case of 1 >> τ , the time evolution ofonly exhibits periodically surging with descending envelope.

The stochastic resonance (SR) of an optical bistable system with cross-correlated additive white and multiplicative colored noises and periodic signal is studied using the unified colored noise approximation and the theory of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).Results show that cross-correlation intensity λ enforces the SR of the system. The position of the peak on the SNR-τ curves moves to the right direction along with the increase of λ (τ is the self-correlation time of the multiplicative colored noise). We find the SR phenomenon in the SNR-D and SNR-Q curves (D and Q are the intensities of the additive and multiplicative noises, respectively), but not in the SNR-λ curves.

Noise-induced switching and stochastic resonance in optically nonlinear CdS crystals

J. Grohs, Sergey P. Apanasevich, Peter Jung +3 more

We investigate the influence of noise present in the periodic input signal of a passive optically bistable element. The thermally induced absorption nonlinearity of CdS crystals is used to achieve optically bi- stable behavior. By measuring the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) of the noisy modulated input signal and of the output signal the phenomenon of stochastic resonance is found: With increasing noise strength the S/N increases up to a maximum value corresponding to the above resonance and then decreases again. The S/N of a noisy input can be enhanced by up to approximately 6 dB with this system. Furthermore, the cases of sinusoidal and rectangular modulation of the bistable element are compared.
