Abstract

By using the linear approximation method, the intensity correlation function C(t)of loss model laser system with a biased amplitude modulation was calculated. The different forms(irregularly periodic increasing, decreasing and so on)were obtained in the evolution of the intensity correlation function C(t)with the time t.The results indicate that:in the case of a0=0.1,the flat irregularly periodic oscillation is shown;the period of irregularly periodic oscillation is adjusted by the low frequencyΩof modulation signal;the initial value and the period of C(t)can be changed by the intensity of quantum noise Qand the high frequencyωof carrier signal.

In the case of the cross-correlation intensity of noises being modulated by time period, the intensity correlation function of the single-mode laser system was presented in terms of the linear approximation method. The evolution of intensity correlation function with the time and find the periodic oscillation of the intensity correlation function was investigated. The results show that oscillation amplitude and period of the intensity correlation function do not vary with the quantum noise intensity, pump noise intensity and cross-correlation intensity. The input signal frequency can change the oscillation amplitude and period of the intensity correlation function, but not change the equilibrium site of the oscillation. The quantum noise intensity can change the position of the oscillation extremum. The parameters can all change the initial decay value of the intensity correlation function, while the intensity correlation function is not sensitive to the time period modulation frequency.

Influence of Noise with Signal Modulation on Intensity Correlation Function of the Single-mode Laser

Using the linear approximation method,we have studied the time vevolution of intensity correlation function C(t) in a single-mode laser driven by the colored pump noise with signal modulation and the quantum noise with cross-correlation between the real and imaginary parts. When pump noise self-correlation time τ changes,we have found that, the time evolution of the C(t) will exhibit various change forms:that is,monotonous descending;monotonous rise;the appearance of a maximum;periodically surging with descending envelope.Furthermore, when the τ is a certain value, the value of the C(t) will lessen with the between the real and imaginary parts of quantum noise correlative increases, but when quantum noise intensity Q increases, the value will increase, and when pump noise intensity P increases, the descending of the C(t) with time has been delayed.

Using the linear approximation, we have studied the time evolution of intensity correlation function C ( t ) in a single-mode laser driven by both the coloured pump noise with signal modulation and the quantum noise with cross-correlation between its real and imaginary parts. In the case of the pump noise with self-correlation time τ<<1, we find that the time evolution of C ( t ) varies with modulation signal frequency Ω , amplitude B and net gain a 0 . (i) As Ω increases, the time evolution of C ( t ) changes from monotonically descending to flat descending and finally to damply oscillating; (ii) as B increases, it changes from monotonically descending to maximal; (iii) as net gain a 0 increases, it changes repeatedly from monotonically descending to monotonically ascending and to maximal, finally to monotonically descending again. However, in the case of τ>>1, the time evolution of C ( t ) only exhibits a form of damping oscillation.

The time evolution of intensity correlation functionin a single-mode laser driven by the coloured pump noise with signal modulation and the quantum noise with cross-correlation between the real and imaginary parts is studied by using the linear approximation method. In the case of the pump noise self-correlation time 1 << τ , it can be found that: (i)when modulation signal frequency Ω increases, the time evolution ofexperiences a changing process, that is, from the monotonous descending to the descending after the appearance of an initial flat, and finally to the periodically surging with descending envelope; (ii)When the net gain 0 a increases, it experiences a repeatedly changing process, that is, from the monotonous descending to monotonous rise, and to the appearance of a maximum, finally to monotonous descending again. However, in the case of 1 >> τ , the time evolution ofonly exhibits periodically surging with descending envelope.

Influence of Noise on Time Evolution of Intensity Correlation Function

Using the linear approximation method, we have studied how the correlation function C ( t ) of the laser intensity changes with time in the loss-noise model of the single-mode laser driven by the colored pump noise with signal modulation and the quantum noise with cross-correlation between the real and imaginary parts. We have found that when the pump noise self-correlation time τ changes, (i) in the case of τ ≪ 1, the C ( t ) vs. t curve experiences a changing process from the monotonous descending to monotonous rise, and finally to the appearance of a maximum; (ii) in the case of τ≫ 1, the curve only exhibits periodically surging with descending envelope. When τ ≪ 1 and τ does not change, with the increase of the pump noise intensity P , the curve experiences a repeated changing process, that is, from the monotonous descending to the appearance of a maximum, then to monotonous rise, and finally to the appearance of a maximum again. With the increase of the quantum noise intensity Q , the curve experiences a changing process from the monotonous rise to the appearance of a maximum, and finally to the monotonous descending. The increase of the quantum noise with cross-correlation between the real and imaginary parts will lead to the fall of the whole curve, but not affect the form of the time evolution of C ( t ).

Intensity Correlation Function of a Single-Mode Laser Driven by Colored Cross-Correlation Noises in Modulation of a Bias Signal

By using the linear approximation method, the intensity correlation function is calculated for a single-mode laser modulated by a bias signal and driven by colored pump and quantum noises with colored cross-correlation. We found that, when the correlation time between the two noises is very short, the behavior of the intensity correlation function versus the time, in addition to decreasing monotonously, also exhibits several cases, such as one maximum, one minimum, and two extrema. When the correlation time between the two noises is very long, the behavior of the intensity correlation function exhibits oscillation and the envelope is similar to the case of short cross-correlation time.
