A quasi-spin model containing two kinds of interactions is proposed. Tbe exact solutionsof the model Hamiltonian on SU(2)×SU(2) basis, the ground-state phase transition and theK-structure of the wave functions are discussed. The effectivity of HF approximation isalso studied in this model.
Abstract We discuss the one-dimensional Hubbard model, on finite sites spin chain, in context of the action of the direct product of two unitary groups SU(2)×SU(2). The symmetry revealed by this group is applicable in the procedure of exact diagonalization of the Hubbard Hamiltonian. This result combined with the translational symmetry, given as the basis of wavelets of the appropriate Fourier transforms, provides, besides the energy, additional conserved quantities, which are presented in the case of a half-filled, four sites spin chain. Since we are dealing with four elementary excitations, two quasiparticles called “spinons”, which carry spin, and two other called “holon” and “antyholon”, which carry charge, the usual spin-SU(2) algebra for spinons and the so called pseudospin-SU(2) algebra for holons and antiholons, provide four additional quantum numbers.
An exact eigenstate of the Lipkin-model Hamiltonian has a parity-symmetry. The resonating Hartree-Fock (Res-HF) ground-state wave function however breaks the parity-symmetry. To restore the parity-symmetry, we develop a parity-projected (P-P) Res-HF approximation to the Lipkin model. The P-P Res-HF wave function is superposed by two P-P Slater determinants. Self-consistent calculation is carried out so as to optimize the P-P Res-HF energy functional. A Res-HF ground state with definite parity brings us the ground-state energy much nearer to the exact one than that the Res-HF and explains most of the ground-state correlation energy. We also show behaviour of P-P Res-HF orbital energies and mixing coefficients calculated by the P-P Res-HF approximation and compare them with those calculated by the parity-unprojected Res-HF approximation. From this comparison, we find very interesting relations between them which have never been seen in the parity-unprojected Res-HF calculation.
A simple and commonly employed approximate technique with which one can examine spatially disordered systems when strong electronic correlations are present is based on the use of real-space unrestricted self-consistent Hartree-Fock wave functions. In such an approach the disorder is treated exactly while the correlations are treated approximately. In this report we critique the success of this approximation by making comparisons between such solutions and the exact wave functions for the Anderson-Hubbard model. Due to the sizes of the complete Hilbert spaces for these problems, the comparisons are restricted to small one-dimensional chains, up to ten sites, and a 4x4 two-dimensional cluster, and at 1/2 filling these Hilbert spaces contain about 63,500 and 166 million states, respectively. We have completed these calculations both at and away from 1/2 filling. This approximation is based on a variational approach which minimizes the Hartree-Fock energy, and we have completed comparisons of the exact and Hartree-Fock energies. However, in order to assess the success of this approximation in reproducing ground-state correlations we have completed comparisons of the local charge and spin correlations, including the calculation of the overlap of the Hartree-Fock wave functions with those of the exact solutions. We find that this approximation reproduces the local charge densities to quite a high accuracy, but that the local spin correlations, as represented by < S_i . S_j >, are not as well represented. In addition to these comparisons, we discuss the properties of the spin degrees of freedom in the HF approximation, and where in the disorder-interaction phase diagram such physics may be important.
