Abstract

The energy level decay terms are introduced into the Schrdinger equation of a three-level atom in an electromagnetic field of circular polarization. By means of modulating frequency of a circularly polarized electromagnetic field and approximation of a strong laser, three special states of three kinds of three-level atom are discovered. Based on these special states, we further study the atom-lifetime of three-level atom in a circularly polarized electromagnetic field.

The Atom-Lifetime in a Circularly Polarized Electromagnetic Wave

Xiong Zhi

Based on this solution for Schrǒdinger equation, the atom lifetime in an electromagnetic wave of circular polarization is studied. When the frequency of a circularly polarized electromagnetic wave is equal to the atomic frequency, the atom lifetime of tow level atom is not influenced by the electromagnetic wave. For a ∧ type three level atom in a circularly polarized electromagnetic wave, we modulate the frequency of the electromagnetic wave to study the atom lifetime and show that the approximate condition in this paper is rational.

Stark Effect of a Three-Level Atom in a Circularly Polarized Electromagnetic Wave

Gao-Jian Zeng, Jingtao Zhang

The Schrödinger equation of a three-level atom in an electromagnetic wave of circular polarization is established. The solution to this equation shows that under the action of the circularly polarized electromagnetic wave, the levels of a Σ-type atom split into nine sublevels, while those of a V-type or Λ-type atom split into six sublevels. By means of some special tuning ways and approximation conditions, the energies of the split levels are expressed in simpler forms.

Stimulated Emission of an Atom in Circularly Polarized Light

Jinhui Li, Gao-Jian Zeng, YE Yong-hua

We study the stimulated emission of a two-level atom in an electromagnetic wave of circular polarization. The correlation function G ( r 1 t , r 2 t ) = ⟨ E - E + ⟩ of atom radiation fields at dipole approximation are computed. Under the resonance condition, the atom stimulated emission is influenced by the circularly polarized electromagnetic wave discussed. We have found that the time-averaged value of energy density does not depend on the initial conditions. We have also deduced the relation between the emission power of an atom and the Rabi frequency Ω.

We study the stimulated emission of a two-level atom in an electromagnetic wave of circular polarization. The correlation function G(r1t,r2t)=(E^-E^+) of atom radiation fields at dipole approximation are computed. Under the resonance condition, the atom stimulated emission is imfluenced by the circularly polarized electromagnetic wave discussed. We have found that the time-averaged value of energy density does not depend on the initial conditions. We have also deduced the relation between the emission power of an atom and the Rabi frequency Ω.

Stark splitting of a three-level atom in circularly polarized light

Gao-Jian Zeng

In this paper, we study Stark splitting of a three-level atom in a circularly polarized electromagnetic wave. We calculate energies of splitting levels. Under some special tuning ways and approximation conditions, these energies have simpler forms and display the following general picture of Stark splitting: the levels of a $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$- or V-type atom are split into six sublevels, while that of a $\ensuremath{\Sigma}$-type atom is split into nine sublevels. We discuss also the occupation probabilities of splitting levels; they are dependent on initial condition. Under the same tuning ways and approximation conditions, some of them may become zero. Therefore under different initial conditions, practical pictures of Stark splitting are not the same. For example, if the atom is initially in its state 1, the practical picture of Stark splitting is the following: the levels of a $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$- or V-type atom are split into four sublevels; that of a $\ensuremath{\Sigma}$-type atom is split into six sublevels. If the atom is initially in its state 2, the practical picture of Stark splitting is the following: the levels of a $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$- or V-type atom are split into five sublevels, while that of a $\ensuremath{\Sigma}$-type atom is split into eight sublevels.
