Abstract

In this paper, we investigate excited characteristic of the weakly interacting quasi-one-dimensional(1D) and quasi-two-dimensional(2D) Bose–Einstein condensation(BEC) in harmonic potential trap. The energy spectrum and the analytical expression of the sound velocity are obtained and analyzed. Compared with 3-Dimensional homogeneous Bose-condensed gas occasion, the sound velocity of 2D Bose-Einstein condensation in harmonic potential trap is smaller.

Collective excitations of a trapped Bose-Einstein condensate in the presence of weak disorder and a two-dimensional optical lattice

Ying Hu, Zhaoxin Liang, Bambi Hu

We investigate the combined effects of weak disorder and a two-dimensional (2D) optical lattice on the collective excitations of a harmonically trapped Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) at zero temperature. Accordingly, we generalize the hydrodynamic equations of superfluid for a weakly interacting Bose gas in a 2D optical lattice to include the effects of weak disorder. Our analytical results for the collective frequencies beyond the mean-field approximation reveal the peculiar role of disorder, interplaying with the 2D optical lattice and interatomic interaction, on elementary excitations along the 3D to 1D crossover. In particular, consequences of disorder on the phonon propagation and surface modes are analyzed in detail. The experimental scenario is also proposed.

Collective Excitations and Nonlinear Dynamics of 1D BEC with Two- and Three-body Interactions in Anharmonic Traps

Guan-Qiang Li, Peng Ping, Liu Jian-Ke +1 more

The collective excitations of low-dimensional Bose–Einstein condensates with two- and three-body interactions in anharmonic potentials are investigated. Using the standard variational approach, the governing equations of motions for the low-energy excitations are obtained by solving time-dependent Gross–Pitaevskii–Ginzburg equation, and the excitation spectrums are calculated in small amplitude limit. The frequency shift and nonlinear mode coupling induced by the anharmonic distortion (adding cubic, quartic, or quintic term to a harmonic trap) are studied.

Excited states of exciton-polariton condensates in 2D and 1D harmonic traps

C. Trallero‐Giner, M. V. Durnev, Y. Núñez-Fernández +3 more

We present a theoretical description of Bogolyubov-type excitations of exciton-polariton Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) in semiconductor microcavities. For a typical two-dimensional (2D) BEC we focus on two limiting cases, the weak- and strong-coupling regimes, where a perturbation theory and the Thomas-Fermi approximation, respectively, are valid. We calculate integrated scattering intensity spectra for probing the collective excitations of the condensate in both considered limits. Moreover, in relation to recent experiments on optical modulation allowing localization of condensates in a trap with well-controlled shape and dimensions, we study the quasi-one-dimensional (1D) motion of the BEC in microwires and report the corresponding Bogolyubov excitation spectrum. We show that in the 1D case the characteristic polariton-polariton interaction constant is expressed as ${g}_{1}=3\ensuremath{\lambda}\mathcal{N}/(2{L}_{y})$ ($\ensuremath{\lambda}$ is the 2D polariton-polariton interaction parameter in the cavity, $\mathcal{N}$ the number of the particles, and ${L}_{y}$ the wire cavity width). We reveal some interesting features for 2D and 1D Bogolyubov spectra for both repulsive $(\ensuremath{\lambda}>0)$ and attractive $(\ensuremath{\lambda}<0)$ interactions.

Collective excitations and superfluid properties of a two-dimensional interacting Bose gas in an external potential

D. V. Fil, S. I. Shevchenko

We develop an approach for a description of collective excitations in a two-dimensional gas of interacting Bose particles in an external potential. We present a method of finding an approximate analytical solution for the spectra of collective excitations of a Bose gas in a linear potential and in a potential of the form u(r)=m-u₀cosh²x/l, where m is the chemical potential. Numerical study shows that the analytical solution corresponds to collective modes localized at the edge or at the low-density region. We investigate the influence of the external potential on a critical velocity of a superfluid flow. It is shown that the effect of strong suppression of the critical velocity takes place in a nonuniform Bose system. We discuss a possibility of Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) in the systems under investigations at nonzero temperatures and find that in case of a finite number of the particles BEC can emerge.

Effect of the anharmonicity of the trap on the collective excitations in Bose-Einstein condensates

Xue Ju-Kui

It is investigated that the collective excitations of a one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate(BEC) with repulsive interaction between atoms in a quadratic plus quartic trap V(x)=12(x~2+λx~4).By using the variational approach, the analytical expressions are derived for two low-energy collective modes, and the effect of the anharmonicity of the potential trap on BEC collective excitations is studied.When(λ0) the frequencies will be blue shifted and when λ0 the frequencies will be red shifted.Meanwhile, the variations of the center-of-mass of the condensate and its width under different values of the driving amplitude are discussed. It is found that the two modes couple each other due to the anharmonicity, and the beating structure for the variation of the width occur. Finally, the response result corresponding to the frequency driving is given.
