Abstract

We present a new scheme for three-dimensional (3D) atom localization in a three-level atomic system via measuring the absorption of a weak probe field. Owing to the space-dependent atom-field interaction, the position probability distribution of the atom can be directly determined by measuring the probe absorption. It is found that, by properly varying the parameters of the system, the probability of finding the atom in 3D space can be almost 100%. Our scheme opens a promising way to achieve high-precision and high-efficiency 3D atom localization, which provides some potential applications in laser cooling or atom nano-lithography via atom localization.

Owing to the space-dependent atom-field interaction, the position probability distribution of the atom can be directly determined by measuring the probe absorption. High-precision three-dimensional atom localization via phase-sensitive absorption spectra in a four-level atomic system

Abstract We propose a new scheme for highly efficient three-dimensional (3D) atom localization in a coherently driven closed-loop four-level atomic system via measuring the probe absorption of the weak field. Due to the spatially dependent atom–field interaction, the absorption spectra of the weak probe laser field carry the information about the atomic position. By solving the density-matrix equations of motion and properly modulating the system parameters such as the probe detuning, the relative phase of three driving fields, and the intensity of the control and microwave fields, we can realize high-precision and high-resolution 3D atom localization. Furthermore, we can find the atom at a certain position with 100% probability under appropriate conditions, and then we employ the dressed-state analysis to explain qualitatively the reason of high-precision 3D atom localization.

Three-dimensional atom localization via probe absorption in a cascade four-level atomic system

Wei Zeng, Li Deng, Aixi Chen

Abstract For an atomic system with cascade four-level type, a useful scheme about three-dimensional (3D) atom localization is proposed. In our scheme the atomic system is coherently controlled by using a radio-frequency field to couple with two-folded levels under the condition of the existence of probe absorption. Our results show that detecting precision of 3D atom localization may be obviously improved by properly adjusting the frequency detuning and strength of the radio-frequency driving field. So our scheme could be helpful to realize 3D atom localization with high-efficiency and high-precision . In the field of laser cooling or the atom nano-lithography, our studies provide potential applications.

Abstract We present a new scheme for high-efficiency three-dimensional (3D) atom localization in a four-level atomic system via measuring the populations in two excited states. Owing to the space-dependent atom–field interaction, the position probability distribution of the atom passing through the standing waves can be directly determined by measuring the populations in two excited states. It is found that the phase-sensitive property of the atomic system reduces the uncertainty in the position measurement of the atom. In particular, the probability of finding the atom in 3D space can be almost 100% via properly varying the parameters of the system. Our scheme opens a promising way to achieve high-precision and high-efficiency 3D atom localization, which provides some potential applications in the atom nanolithography via 3D atom localization.
