Universal features of Lifshitz Green's functions from

Abstract

We examine the behavior of the retarded Green's function in theories with Lifshitz scaling symmetry, both through dual gravitational models and a directeld theory approach. In contrast with the case of a relativistic CFT, where the Green's function is xed (up to normalization) by symmetry, the generic Lifshitz Green's function can a priori depend on an arbitrary function G(^!), where ^ ! = !=j ~ kj z is the scale-invariant ratio of frequency to wavenumber, with dynamical exponent z. Nevertheless, we demonstrate that the imaginary part of the retarded Green's function (i.e. the spectral function) of scalar operators is exponentially suppressed in a window of frequencies near zero. This behavior is universal in all Lifshitz theories without additional constraining symmetries. On the gravity side, this result is robust against higher derivative corrections, while on theeld theory side we present two z = 2 examples where the exponential suppression arises from summing the perturbative expansion to innite order.

Fermions on a Lifshitz background

Mohsen Alishahiha, M. Reza Mohammadi Mozaffar, Ali Mollabashi

We study a nonrelativistic fermionic retarded Green's function by making use of a fermion on the Lifshitz geometry with critical exponent $z=2$. With a natural boundary condition, respecting the symmetries of the model, the resultant retarded Green's function exhibits a number of interesting features including a flat band. We also study the finite temperature and finite chemical potential cases where the geometry is replaced by Lifshitz black hole solutions.

Massless Lifshitz field theory for arbitrary z

Jaydeep Kumar Basak, Adrita Chakraborty, Chong‐Sun Chu +2 more

A bstract By using the notion of fractional derivatives, we introduce a class of massless Lifshitz scalar field theory in (1+1)-dimension with an arbitrary anisotropy index z . The Lifshitz scale invariant ground state of the theory is constructed explicitly and takes the form of Rokhsar-Kivelson (RK). We show that there is a continuous family of ground states with degeneracy parameterized by the choice of solution to the equation of motion of an auxiliary classical system. The quantum mechanical path integral establishes a 2d/1d correspondence with the equal time correlation functions of the Lifshitz scalar field theory. We study the entanglement properties of the Lifshitz theory for arbitrary z using the path integral representation. The entanglement measures are expressed in terms of certain cross ratio functions we specify, and satisfy the c -function monotonicity theorems. We also consider the holographic description of the Lifshitz theory. In order to match with the field theory result for the entanglement entropy, we propose a z -dependent radius scale for the Lifshitz background. This relation is consistent with the z -dependent scaling symmetry respected by the Lifshitz vacuum. Furthermore, the time-like entanglement entropy is determined using holography. Our result suggests that there should exist a fundamental definition of time-like entanglement other than employing analytic continuation as performed in relativistic field theory.

Entanglement entropy in generalised quantum Lifshitz models

J. Angel-Ramelli, Valentina Giangreco M. Puletti, Lárus Thorlacius A

Abstract We compute universal finite corrections to entanglement entropy for generalised quantum Lifshitz models in arbitrary odd spacetime dimensions. These are generalised free field theories with Lifshitz scaling symmetry, where the dynamical critical exponent z equals the number of spatial dimensions d, and which generalise the 2+1-dimensional quantum Lifshitz model to higher dimensions. We analyse two cases: one where the spatial manifold is a d-dimensional sphere and the entanglement entropy is evaluated for a hemisphere, and another where a d-dimensional flat torus is divided into two cylinders. In both examples the finite universal terms in the entanglement entropy are scale invariant and depend on the compactification radius of the scalar field.

Thermodynamic Green’s Functions and Spectral Structure

Norman J. M. Horing

Abstract Multiparticle thermodynamic Green’s functions, defined in terms of grand canonical ensemble averages of time-ordered products of creation and annihilation operators, are interpreted as tracing the amplitude for time-developing correlated interacting particle motions taking place in the background of a thermal ensemble. Under equilibrium conditions, time-translational invariance permits the one-particle thermal Green’s function to be represented in terms of a single frequency, leading to a Lehmann spectral representation whose frequency poles describe the energy spectrum. This Green’s function has finite values for both t>t′ and t<t′ (unlike retarded Green’s functions), and the two parts G1> and G1< (respectively) obey a simple proportionality relation that facilitates the introduction of a spectral weight function: It is also interpreted in terms of a periodicity/antiperiodicity property of a modified Green’s function in imaginary time capable of a Fourier series representation with imaginary (Matsubara) frequencies. The analytic continuation from imaginary time to real time is discussed, as are related commutator/anticommutator functions, also retarded/advanced Green’s functions, and the spectral weight sum rule is derived. Statistical thermodynamic information is shown to be embedded in physical features of the one- and two-particle thermodynamic Green’s functions.

Capacity of entanglement in Lifshitz theories

Sare Khoshdooni, Komeil Babaei Velni, M. Reza Mohammadi Mozaffar

We study the capacity of entanglement in certain integrable scale invariant theories that exhibit Lifshitz scaling symmetry with a generic dynamical exponent z at the critical point. This measure characterizes the width of the eigenvalue spectrum of the reduced density matrix and is a quantum informational counterpart of heat capacity. We explore various aspects of capacity of entanglement, such as the corresponding universal terms for the ground state, its z dependence, and its temporal evolution, after a global quantum quench in two dimensions. We carefully examine the existence of a convenient entropic c -function based on this quantity both in bosonic and fermionic theories. While in the relativistic case the corresponding c -function displays a monotonic behavior under the renormalization group flow, this is not the case for the nonrelativistic theories. We also investigate the dynamics of capacity of entanglement after a mass quench and show that it follows the quasiparticle interpretation for the spreading of entanglement. Finally, we discuss how these results are consistent with the behavior of other entanglement measures, including the entanglement entropy.
