Abstract

In this paper, considering the worst case channel uncertainty, we propose a robust secure design with cooperative jamming strategy in decode-and-forward relay network. Practically, it is difficult for the full-duplex model to eliminate the self-interference and experience indicates that full-duplex schemes may not always outperform half-duplex schemes. Thus, we employ the hybrid full/half-duplex protocol to reduce the influence of self-interference. Considering imperfect eavesdropping channel condition, we propose a worst-case robust design to obtain jamming weights, which is solved through semi-definite program. Furthermore, we analyze secrecy rate and secrecy outage performance of the proposed scheme. As a benchmark, a traditional full-duplex multi-relay system based on equal-power is proposed for comparison. Simulation results demonstrate that our hybrid strategy with robust design outperforms the traditional full-duplex scheme.

Opportunistic relaying and jamming with robust design in hybrid full/half-duplex relay system

Zhi Lin, Yueming Cai, Weiwei Yang +1 more

Full duplex (FD) protocol has been widely used in wireless communications, which could transmit and receive signals at the meantime. In this paper, considering the worst-case channel uncertainty, opportunistic relaying and jamming strategy in decode-and-forward (DF) hybrid full/half-duplex (HD) relay system is proposed to enhance security. Specifically, the relay works in FD protocol to receive the confidential signals and transmit jamming signals at the first time slot. Then, the relay switches to HD protocol to transmit the decoded signals. Meanwhile, jammers emit cooperative jamming (CJ) signals to interfere the eavesdropper at two transmission slots. Suppose that imperfect eavesdropper channel condition is considered, we propose a worst-case robust design to obtain distributed jamming weights, which is solved through semi-definite program (SDP). Furthermore, we analyze secrecy rate and secrecy outage performance of the proposed scheme. As a benchmark, a traditional relay selection strategy with HD protocol in distributed relay system is listed for comparison. Simulation results demonstrate that our hybrid scheme with robust design outperforms the traditional relay selection scheme, because the traditional scheme does not consider hybrid FD/HD protocols and robust design based on imperfect channel conditions.

Robust secure switching transmission in MISOSE relaying networks with channel uncertainty

Zhi Lin, Lei Wang, Yueming Cai +2 more

In this paper, we investigate the physical layer security of multiple-input single-output single-antenna eavesdropper relaying networks with imperfect channel state information. Different from traditional strategies in relay systems, which would halt the communication if the relay could not decode the signal successfully, we propose a robust secure transmission strategy which switches between cooperative jamming and decoded-and-forward. Our objective is to maximize secrecy rate, given the unavailability of the perfect eavesdropper channel state information, we propose a worst-case robust design based on secrecy rate. In addition, a traditional robust scheme and a non-robust scheme are put forward as benchmarks. Simulation results verify that the proposed scheme based on robust designs can achieve significant security performance gains over other approaches. More interestingly, because of the influence of cooperative jamming, the security performance of non-robust scheme outperforms the traditional robust designs in low transmit power and low channel error coefficient regions.

Secrecy rate and power allocation of full duplex relay network with full duplex hybrid relaying-and-jamming scheme

Hang Qi, Qiang Wang, Yi Wang +1 more

In this paper, we consider secure transmission for the full duplex relay network. Aiming to improve the physical layer security, we propose a full duplex hybrid relaying-and-jamming (FDHRJ) scheme. In the FDHRJ scheme, we design a pre-coding matrix to form a jamming signal and let the relay simultaneously transmit both the desired signal and the jamming signal every slot. The destination can decode the desired signal and eliminate the jamming signal while the eavesdropper cannot do this. Based on the scheme, we derive an analytical expression of the system secrecy rate and the optimal power allocation between the desired signal and the jamming signal. The simulation results show that the proposed FDHRJ scheme with the optimal power allocation has better performance than the exiting schemes.

Secure robust resource allocation using full-duplex receivers

Mohammad Reza Abedi, Nader Mokari, Hamid Saeedi +1 more

This paper studies a robust resource allocation framework to enhance physical layer security where it is assumed that the system is equipped with a full-duplex (FD) receiver in contrast to conventional frameworks where a half-duplex (HD) receiver is at hand. Conventionally, relays are used as jammer to reduce the signal quality received by the eavesdroppers so as to increase the secrecy transmission rate between the legitimate transmitter and receiver. This is referred to as cooperative jamming (CJ). In a system equipped with a FD receiver, we propose to use the FD receiver as the jammer, i.e., the FD receiver simultaneously transmits jamming signals toward the eavesdropper while receiving data from the transmitter. The proposed scheme eliminates the need for external helpers, i.e., jamming relays which is welcome from practical point of view. We consider different scenarios to compare the proposed scheme against the CJ scheme in which, under a legitimate transmitter power constraint, optimal power allocation is obtained for each scenario to maximize the secrecy rate. To take into account the impact of imperfect state information of the channels between the eavesdropper and other nodes on the network, worst-case optimization approaches are considered. Simulation results demonstrate that for certain positions of the jamming relay and eavesdropper, the proposed system can outperform the conventional CJ schemes.

Secure Outage Probability Analysis of Relay Networks Based on Cooperative Jamming

Yan Zheng, Shouyi Yang, Hao Fu +1 more

In view of the security of the relay system with eavesdropping node, the secure outage probability of relay system under cooperative jamming mechanism is studied based on the theory of physical layer security. The method of transmitting jamming signals by the source node and destination node is proposed to make the receiving of eavesdropping node worse than the legal node, improving the secure performance of the system. Meanwhile, the self-interference caused by the relay node in the full-duplex is avoided. The theoretical derivation of the system's secure outage probability is also made. The simulation results show that compared with the traditional relay network, the proposed system's secure outage probability is significantly reduced by using cooperative jamming technology. In addition, with the cooperative jamming mechanism, the secure outage probability of the proposed half-duplex network is better than that of full-duplex network.

Robust transmit design for secure AF relay networks with imperfect CSI

Lingxiang Li, Yu Xu, Zhi Chen +1 more

This paper studies robust transmit design for secure AF relay networks with imperfect channel state information (CSI). Two CSI error models, deterministically bounded error model and stochastic error model, are considered. In order to use the power at relays more efficiently, a joint cooperative relaying and jamming scheme is considered, where relays cooperate to forward the source signal and simultaneously they cooperate to send jamming signals to confuse the eavesdroppers. In this joint cooperative relaying and jamming framework, we address the robust joint optimization of the relay weights and the input covariance matrix of jamming signals for secrecy rate maximization (SRM), under both total and individual relay power constraints. Specifically, for the case of deterministically bounded error model, where the CSI error can be specified by an uncertainty set, we maximize the worst-case secrecy rate. While for the case of stochastic error model, where the probability distribution of the CSI error is Gaussian, we maximize the outage constrained secrecy rate. The challenge of these considered SRM-based optimizations lies in their non-convexity. This paper shows that such SRM-based optimization can be solved in a convex fashion and via solving a sequence of semidefinite programs (SDPs). Numerical results are presented to show the efficacy of the proposed scheme.
