The Jaynes-Cummings model dynamics for nano-optical systems

Abstract

We investigate a two-level atom Jaynes–Cummings model and its dynamics for a nano-optical system. The optical system is assumed to be a hollow cylindrical waveguide with a circular cross section. Since the system is assumed to have nanoscale dimensions, the interaction process is strictly affected only by a single waveguide mode. The atom–mode coupling and the probability amplitudes are evaluated for different waveguide parameters as functions of the mode frequency.

The two-level atom Jaynes–Cummings model and its dynamics are investigated in a particular cavity, namely, two infinitely planar parallel perfectly conducting plates separated by a distance L in vacuum. The atom–field coupling and the probability amplitudes are evaluated as a function of the mode frequency and for different cavity parameters.

Dynamics of the Jaynes-Cummings model in the presence of photonic crystals

Ali A. Kamli, Smail B. Bougouffa

The three-level atom Jaynes-Cummings model is solved exactly and its dynamics investigated in photonic crystals that exhibit band gaps. The atom-field coupling and the probability amplitudes are evaluated as functions of the mode frequency and for different cavity parameters. Besides band-gap effects, the system exhibits novel local field effects. These show as peaks in the atom-field coupling and hence peaks or dips in the probability functions.

Interaction of a Two-Level Atom with the Morse Potential in the Framework of Jaynes–Cummings Model

Mohammad Reza Setare, Sh. Barzanjeh

A theoretical study of the dynamical behaviors of the interaction between a two-level atom with a Morse potential in the framework of the Jaynes–Cummings model (JCM) is discussed. We show that this system is equivalent to an intensity-dependent coupling between the two-level atom and the non-deformed single-mode radiation field in the presence of an additional nonlinear interaction. We study the dynamical properties of the system such as, atomic population inversion, the probability distribution of cavity-field, the Mandel parameter and atomic dipole squeezing. It is shown how the depth of the Morse potential can be affected by non-classical properties of the system. Moreover, the temporal evolution of the Husimi-distribution function is explored.

The damped Jaynes–Cummings model

Stephen Mark Barnett, John Jeffers

The dynamics of the much studied Jaynes–Cummings model, of a single two-level atom interacting with a single quantized field mode, is simple to solve for because the number of quanta in the system is strictly conserved. Including the effects of cavity damping makes the model significantly more difficult to treat. Here we present a simple derivation of the evolution of the atomic inversion in the presence of cavity damping. This will enable us to explain the physical meaning of the solution, first derived more than 20 years ago, and also to show that it is valid for much stronger damping than was appreciated at that time.

Generalized Jaynes-Cummings models with a time-dependent atom-field coupling

Amitabh Joshi, S. V. Lawande

An extension of the standard one-photon as well as the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings (JC) model has been done to include transient effects due to a modulation of the atom-field coupling coefficient. An explicit time dependence is given for the case of a linear sweep of the coupling parameter. We have shown the effects of such a sweep on the dynamical evolution of a two-level atom undergoing a one- or two-photon process in a single nondecaying mode of the field in a coherent state. The statistical aspects of the field, such as intensity-intensity correlation and squeezing, are also investigated and are found to be both qualitatively as well as quantitatively different from the standard JC models.
