Abstract

We study quantum tunneling of a dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate in optical lattice when the spin system initially is prepared in a squeezed coherent state. It is found that there exists quantum tunneling between lattices l and l + 1, l and l - 1, respectively. In particular, when the optical lattice is infinitely long and the spin excitations are in the long-wavelength limit, quantum tunneling disappears between lattices l and l + 1, and that l and l - 1. Correspondingly, the magnetic soliton appears.

Tunneling of Spinor Bose–Einstein Condensates in Optical Lattice

Zhao-Xian Yu, Jiu‐Qing Liang, Zhi-Yong Jiao

In this letter, we have studied the tunneling effects and fluctuations of spinor Bose–Einstein condensates in optical lattice. It is found that there exist tunneling effects and fluctuations between lattices l and l + 1, l and l − 1, respectively. In particular, when the optical lattice is infinitely long and the spin excitations are in the long-wavelength limit, tunneling effects disappear between lattices l and l + 1, and l and l − 1. In this case the fluctuations are a constant, and the magnetic soliton appears.

Solitons mobility in a dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate in an optical lattice

Bakhram Umarov, Abdelaziz Benzeghir

The present work is devoted to the theoretical investigation of the dynamics of Bose –Einstein condensates (BEC) in optical lattice with the long range magnetic dipole-dipole interaction between atoms. The system is described by a nonlocal nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLSE). We consider the case when the lattice depth is sufficiently large (tight binding approximation). In this case nonlocal NLSE can be reduced to discrete NLSE equation. We show that discrete NLSE equation for some range of parameters can be reduced further to integrable Ablowitz-Ladik equation which supports moving solitons. Taking the one-soliton solution of Ablowitz-Ladik equation as an initial condition we have performed detailed numerical study of a soliton dynamics in both nonlocal NLSE and discrete NLSE. The conditions of existence and stability of moving solitons in dipolar BEC in an optical lattice are numerically revealed. Also the applicability limits for the tight binding approximation for the experimentally achievable range of parameters are investigated.

Magnetic solitons of spinor Bose-Einstein condensates in an optical lattice

Zhengwei Xie, Weiping Zhang, S. T. Chui +1 more

Magnetic solitons in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates confined in a one-dimensional optical lattice are studied by the Holstein-Primakoff transformation method. It is shown that due to the long-range light-induced and static magnetic dipole-dipole interactions, there exist different types of magnetic solitary excitations in different parameter regions. Compared to conventional solid-state materials, the parameters of this type of magnetic solitons in an optical lattice can be easily tuned by the above dipole-dipole interactions, which are highly controllable in experiments.

In this letter, we have studied quantum tunneling of two-species cold bosonic atoms in an optical lattices. When the optical lattice is not infinitely long and the spin excitations are not in the long-wavelength limit, quantum tunnelings are presented.

Magnetic Solitons in Optical Lattice

Xing-Dong Zhao

In this chapter, we discuss the magnetic solitons achieved in atomic spinor Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) confined within optical lattice. Spinor BECs at each lattice site behave like spin magnets and can interact with each other through the static magnetic dipole-dipole interaction (MDDI), due to which the magnetic soliton may exist in blue-detuned optical lattice. By imposing an external laser field into the lattice or loading atoms in a red-detuned optical lattice, the light-induced dipole-dipole interaction (LDDI) can produce new magnetic solitons. The long-range couplings induced by the MDDI and ODDI play a dominant role in the spin dynamics in an optical lattice. Compared with spin chain in solid material, the nearest-neighbor approximation, next-nearest-neighbor approximation, and long-range case are discussed, respectively.
