Quantum Light Excitation of Atoms in Ideal Bose–Einstein condensate

Abstract

The spectrum shape of atomic radiation in the case of ideal Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) excited by quantized light is derived through the Wigner–Weisskopf approximation. Besides the split and gap in the excitation spectrum, a doublet structure appears in the emission spectrum with different widths for the non-resonant case and the same widths for the resonant case. The survival probability is found to decrease exponentially for the non-resonant case and with oscillation for the resonant case. A suppressed radiation also appears in the non-resonant case. All these results can be used to detect the existence of BE condensation.

On a theory of light scattering from a Bose-Einstein condensate

V. M. Ezhova, L. V. Gerasimov, Dmitriy V. Kupriyanov

We consider a quantum theory of elastic light scattering from a macroscopic atomic sample existing in the Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) phase. Following the second quantized formalism we introduce a set of coupled and closed diagram equations for the polariton propagator contributing to the T -matrix and scattering amplitude. Our approach allows us to follow important density corrections to the quasi-energy structure caused by static interaction and radiation losses associated with incoherent scattering in the case of near resonance excitation.

Radiation spectrum of systems with condensed light

Alexander Kruchkov

Experimental observation of Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of photons inside a microcavity induced an extensive study of the phenomenon. Beyond the purely theoretical interest, this phenomenon is believed to be used to create a novel source of light. The shape of radiation spectrum is therefore the main characteristic of the system with light BEC as an optical device. However, until now, there were no detailed calculations of this property. In the present paper we derive analytically the shape of radiation spectrum and show that our results are in excellent agreement with existing experimental measurements.

Dynamics of Bose-Einstein Condensed and Excited Atoms in a Quantized Cavity

Yi Xue-Xi, Sun Changpu

The dynamics of the Bose–Einstein condensed and excited atoms in a cavity interacting with quantized electromagnetic field of single mode is studied for both the cases with and without dissipation. It is shown that the frequencies of oscillation between the condensed atomic state and an excited state are related to the number of Bose–Einstein condensed atom in a certain form. This relation may be used for the reliable detection of the appearance of the Bose–Einstein condensate.

The quantum nonlinear dynamics of an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) in a double-well potential is studied. Spectrum of light scattered from a 'deformed' Bose-Einstein condensate

Density profile of the atomic Bose - Einstein condensation

Yi Xue-Xi, Jun-Chen Su

We study the density profile and the dynamics of atoms interacting with the quantized radiation field in a trap. The density profile is evaluated by using the Bogoliubov approximation. The calculated mean number of atoms at zero temperature appears to be a function of time which shows a damped oscillation. The shape of the lines for the light scattered from Bose - Einstein condensates are also discussed.
