Absorption and dispersion spectra of a polychromatic field in a two-level medium driven by a strong polychromatic pumping field

Yu. A. Zinin, N. V. Sushilov

An analytic expression of the polarization induced by a polychromatic weak probe field in a two-level medium, driven by a strong polychromatic pumping field, is obtained. This expression allows one to obtain both the absorption and dispersion spectra at any frequency of a probe field. The numerically calculated graphs of the central-component probe-field absorption and dispersion spectra, depending on the pumping-field amplitude in the cases of the one-, two- three-, four-, and five-component pumping field, are presented. It is shown that when the probe-field detuning is close to the strong-field Rabi frequency, the absorption spectrum changes to the dispersionlike form, while the dispersion spectrum changes to the absorptionlike one.

Absorption and dispersion by a driven atom in a cavity

Helen S. Freedhoff, Tran Quang

We investigate the absorption and dispersion of a probe field by a two-level atom driven by a strong external field and coupled to a single cavity mode. For moderate atom–field coupling the absorption spectrum contains ultrasharp lines, and the real part of the linear susceptibility changes rapidly at the Mollow sideband frequencies. For large coupling the absorption and dispersion spectra split into multiplets whose structures depend on the photon-number distribution of the cavity field. A large index of refraction accompanied by vanishing absorption is predicted.

Quantum coherence in Λ-three-level system driven by bichromatic coupling field

Yang Li-Jun, Zhao Min, Lianshui Zhang +3 more

We present a theoretical study of quantum coherent effects in a Λ-three-level system with a strong bichromatic coupling field and a weak probe field. When one component of the strong bichromatic coupling field is resonant with a corresponding transition and the other is detuning with an integer fraction of the Rabi frequency of the resonant field, the absorption spectrum exhibits a series of symmetrical doublets. While two frequencies of the strong bichromatic coupling field are symmetrically detuned from the transition, the position and the relative intensity of the absorption peak are both affected by the coupling field intensity and detuning. An explanation of the spectrum is given in term of the dressed-state formalism.
