Non-Markovian effect on the precision of parameter estimation

Abstract

We study the non-Markovian effect on the dynamics of the quantum Fisher information (QFI) by exactly solving a model consisting of a qubit system subjects to a zero-temperature reservoir for two different non-Markovian conditions: a high-$Q$ cavity slightly off-resonant with the qubit transition frequency and a nonperfect photonic band gap, respectively. The phenomenon that the QFI, namely, the precision of estimation, changes dramatically with the environment structure and is affected by the environment memory effects. We find that revivals and retardation of QFI loss may occur by adjusting the cavity-qubit detuning, in the first case, while partial QFI trapping occurs in nonideal photonic band gaps and the decreasing gap width seriously destroys coherence, thus reducing the precision of estimation. These features make the qubit system in non-Markovian environments a good candidate for implementation of quantum optics schemes and information with high precision.

Protecting the precision of estimation in a photonic crystal

K. Berrada

The quantum Fisher information (QFI) of a two-level atom in an anisotropic and isotropic photonic band-gap (PBG) crystal has been studied without Born or Markovian approximation. We show that the precision of the parameter estimation for the two-level atom in the photonic crystal is greatly different from that of a two-level atom in vacuum or that subjected to the usual non-Markovian reservoir. The phenomenon shows that the QFI, namely, the precision of estimation, changes dramatically with the environment structure. The results also show that, for PBG materials, environmentally high values of QFI trapping can be achieved and thus prevention of QFI sudden drop occurs, which greatly enhances the coherence and increases the precision of estimation. Moreover, the QFI in the isotropic PBG is more easily preserved than that of the anisotropic PBG under the same condition. These features make the atom system in PBG materials a good candidate for implementation of different schemes of quantum optics and information with high precision.

Dynamical Change of Quantum Fisher Information of Cavity-Reservoir Systems*

Jiang Huang, Qin Xie

Abstract We study the quantum Fisher information (QFI) dynamics of the phase parameter in the enlarged cavity-reservoir systems at zero temperature under two situations of large N limit and non-Markovian environment, respectively. We find an important relation that the total quantities of QFI of the cavity and reservoir are equal to unit during the dynamical evolution. The lost QFI of the cavity transfers to its corresponding reservoir with the same quantities simultaneously. Moreover, we also find that the detuning parameter and non-Markovian effect are two significant factors to affect the preservation of QFI.

Entropy squeezing and coherence for a non-Markovian dissipative qubit system

K. Berrada

We examine the impact of the non-Markovian environment on the dynamical behavior of the quantum coherence and entropy squeezing considering a two-level atomic system (qubit) immersed in a reservoir with zero-temperature for two types of non-Markovian environments. We consider a cavity little off-resonance with the transition frequency of the qubit and the case of a non-perfect photonic band gap (PBG). We show that the amount of coherence is dependent on the structure of the environment and influenced through the memory effects. We obtain that the delay and revival of the coherence loss might take place by controlling the detuning of the cavity-qubit system. Whereas, a partial coherence trapping occurs in non-ideal PBG and the decrease of the gap width will destroy the coherence. On the other hand, we show the situation for which the squeezing is occurring and enhanced with respect to the main parameters for the system. Finally, we display the monotonic dependence of the quantum coherence and squeezing on the main model parameters.

Optimizing precision in quantum metrology through engineered environments

K. Berrada

This manuscript investigates the enhancement of parameter-estimation precision (P-EP) in photonic systems subjected to pure dephasing within Markovian and non-Markovian environments. We employ the quantum Fisher information (QFI) to quantify precision and analyze its dynamics in a system where a single photon's polarization interacts with a structured frequency environment. This environment is engineered using a Fabry-Pérot cavity and characterized by parameters such as the tilt angle, spectral width, and refractive index difference. Our results demonstrate that for specific configurations, particularly at certain angles, the system exhibits pronounced non-Markovian behavior, leading to oscillatory revivals in QFI, which signify periods of enhanced P-EP. Furthermore, we find that narrower spectral widths and smaller refractive index differences amplify these effects, prolonging periods of high QFI and improving estimation precision. These findings are corroborated by von Neumann entropy analysis, which reveals corresponding oscillations in quantum purity. Our study highlights the potential of engineered environments to improve the precision of quantum measurements despite environmental interactions, offering a promising strategy for advancing quantum technologies.

Quantum metrology with a non-Markovian qubit system

The dynamics of the quantum Fisher information (QFI) of phase parameter estimation in a non-Markovian dissipative qubit system is investigated within the structure of single and double Lorentzian spectra. We use the time-convolutionless method with fourth-order perturbation expansion to obtain the general forms of QFI for the qubit system in terms of a non-Markovian master equation. We find that the phase parameter estimation can be enhanced in our model within both single and double Lorentzian spectra. What is more, the detuning and spectral width are two significant factors affecting the enhancement of parameter-estimation precision.
