Abstract

We provide spectroscopic data for the $a{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{3}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}$ state of the $^{23}\mathrm{Na}^{39}\mathrm{K}$ molecule. The experiment is done in an ultrasonic beam apparatus, starting from the ground state $X{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{1}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}$ and driving the population to the $a{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{3}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}$ state, using a $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ scheme with fixed pump and scanning dump laser. The signals are observed as dips of the total fluorescence. The intermediate level is chosen to be strongly perturbed by the $B{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Pi}/c{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{3}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}$ states mixing to overcome the singlet-triplet transfer prohibition. We observed highly resolved hyperfine spectra of various rovibrational levels of the $a{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{3}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}$ state from ${v}_{a}=2$ up to the highest vibrational levels for rotational quantum numbers ${N}_{a}=4,6,8$. By the typical experimental linewidth of 17 MHz, the vibrational dependence of the hyperfine splitting is clearly revealed for NaK. The absolute frequency measurements of the vibrational levels are used for improvement of the $a{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{3}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}$ potential curve and of the derived scattering length of all natural isotope combinations. Applying the $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ scheme in the reverse direction can provide a pathway for efficient transfer of ultracold $^{23}\mathrm{Na}^{39}\mathrm{K}$ molecules from the $\text{Na}(3s)+\text{K}(4s)$ asymptote to the lowest levels of the ground state. We show spectra that couple the absolute ground state ${v}_{X}=0,J=0$ with an appropriate intermediate state for direct realization of the reverse path. The refined theoretical model of the coupled excited states of the $\text{Na}(3s)+\text{K}(4p)$ asymptote allows predictions of efficient paths for $^{23}\mathrm{Na}^{40}\mathrm{K}$; one example is calculated.

High-resolution molecular spectroscopy for producing ultracold absolute-ground-state Na23Rb87 molecules

We report a detailed molecular spectroscopy study of the lowest excited electronic states of $^{23}\mathrm{Na}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ for producing ultracold $^{23}\mathrm{Na}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ molecules in the electronic, rovibrational, and hyperfine ground state. Starting from weakly bound Feshbach molecules, a series of vibrational levels of the $A{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{1}{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}}^{+}\text{\ensuremath{-}}b{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{3}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Pi}}$ coupled excited states is investigated. After resolving, modeling, and interpreting the hyperfine structure of several lines, we successfully identify a long-lived level resulting from the accidental hyperfine coupling between the ${0}^{+}$ and ${0}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ components of the $b{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{3}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Pi}}$ state, satisfying all the requirements for the population transfer toward the lowest rovibrational level of the $X{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{1}{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}}^{+}$ state. Using two-photon spectroscopy, its binding energy is measured to be 4977.308(3) ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$. We calibrate all the transition strengths carefully and also demonstrate Raman transfer of Feshbach molecules to the absolute ground state.

R. Ferber, О. Nikolayeva, M. Tamanis +2 more

The K and Cs atom pair and its $X{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{1}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}$ and $a{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{3}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}$ electronic molecular states are studied by Fourier-transform spectroscopy with special emphasis on bound states close to the ground state asymptote $(4s)\text{K}+(6s)\text{Cs}$. Significant vibrational mixing due to hyperfine coupling was observed leading to improved potential energy curves for both states. The observed intensity pattern of the hyperfine structure for the last vibrational levels of $X{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{1}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}$ and $a{\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{3}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}$ reveals deep insight into the multicomponent wave function of such levels with its influence for modeling the asymptotic behavior of the excited electronic states involved in the reported observations. Examples of derived properties of cold collisions are given and the importance of the present results for efficient production schemes for ultracold KCs is discussed.

Observation of the last bound levels near the Na2 ground-state asymptote

M. Elbs, H. Knöckel, T. Laue +2 more

A multistep laser excitation scheme was used to access the last, least bound levels close to the lowest asymptote $3s+3s$ with the molecular states $X{}^{1}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}_{g}^{+}$ and $a{}^{3}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}_{u}^{+}$ of ${\mathrm{Na}}_{2}$. All singlet levels within the last $10 {\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$, and some triplet levels with sufficient singlet admixture, were observed. The level energies were determined with uncertainties of less than 22 MHz with respect to the dissociation limit. The hyperfine structure was resolved, and asymmetric line shapes due to predissociation by tunneling through the rotational barrier or electronic state coupling were recorded for levels above the dissociation limit.

Two-photon pathway to ultracold ground state molecules of [superscript 23]Na [superscript 40]K

Jee Woo Park, Sebastian Will, Martin W. Zwierlein

We report on high-resolution spectroscopy of ultracold fermionic [superscript 23]Na[superscript 40]K Feshbach molecules, and identify a two-photon pathway to the rovibrational singlet ground state via a resonantly mixed B[superscript 1]Π ~ c[superscript 3]Σ[superscript +]intermediate state. Photoassociation in a [superscript 23]Na–[superscript 40]K atomic mixture and one-photon spectroscopy on [superscript 23]Na[superscript 40]K Feshbach molecules reveal about 20 vibrational levels of the electronically excited c[superscript 3]Σ[superscript +]state. Two of these levels are found to be strongly perturbed by nearby B[superscript 1]Π levels via spin–orbit coupling, resulting in additional lines of dominant singlet character in the perturbed complex B[superscript 1}Π |v = 4〉 ~ c[superscript 3]∑[superscript +] v = 25〉, or of resonantly mixed character in B[superscript 1}Π |v = 12〉 ~ c[superscript 3]∑[superscript +] v = 35〉. The dominantly singlet level is used to locate the absolute rovibrational singlet ground state X[superscript 1]∑[superscript +] |v = 0, J = 0〉 via Autler–Townes spectroscopy. We demonstrate coherent two-photon coupling via dark state spectroscopy between the predominantly triplet Feshbach molecular state and the singlet ground state. Its binding energy is measured to be 5212.0447(1) cm[superscript −1], a thousand-fold improvement in accuracy compared to previous determinations. In their absolute singlet ground state, [superscript 23]Na[superscript 40]K molecules are chemically stable under binary collisions and possess a large electric dipole moment of 2.72 Debye. Our work thus paves the way towards the creation of strongly dipolar Fermi gases of NaK molecules.

Deperturbation treatment of the AΣ+1–bΠ3 complex of NaRb and prospects for ultracold molecule formation in XΣ+1(v=0;J=0)

High resolution Fourier transform spectra (FTS) of laser induced fluorescence (LIF) of $C\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Sigma}^{+};D\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Pi}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}A\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Sigma}^{+}--b\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{3}\ensuremath{\Pi}$ and $A\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Sigma}^{+}--b\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{3}\ensuremath{\Pi}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}X\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Sigma}^{+}$ transitions in ${\mathrm{Na}}^{85}\mathrm{Rb}$ and ${\mathrm{Na}}^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ were obtained. An analysis of the direct LIF spectra together with the rotational relaxation satellites provided highly accurate rovibronic term values for $(4\ensuremath{\leqslant}J\ensuremath{\leqslant}163)$ of the $A\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Sigma}^{+}--b\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{3}\ensuremath{\Pi}$ complex, covering about 1950 mostly singlet levels $0\ensuremath{\leqslant}{v}_{A}\ensuremath{\leqslant}49$ and a considerable number $(>360)$ of the predominantly triplet $b\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{3}\ensuremath{\Pi}_{0,1}$ sublevels. The direct deperturbation analysis of the singlet-triplet $A--b$ complex was performed by means of the inverted channel-coupling approach with Hund's coupling case $\mathbf{a}$ basis functions. The electronic matrix elements of the model $4\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}4$ Hamiltonian were defined as piecewise analytical functions of the internuclear distance. Besides the Born-Oppenheimer potential energy curves of the mutually perturbed states and the off-diagonal spin-orbit (SO) $A--b$ coupling function, the SO splitting of the $b\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{3}\ensuremath{\Pi}$ state was determined due to the pronounced electronic-rotation interaction between the $b\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{3}\ensuremath{\Pi}_{0}$ and $b\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{3}\ensuremath{\Pi}_{1}$ components observed for high $J$ levels. Overall, 24 mass-invariant fitting parameters have been required to reproduce about 2300 experimental term values of both isotopomers with a standard deviation of $0.012\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$, which is consistent with the uncertainty of the FTS experiment. An analytical mapping procedure based on a reduced variable representation of the radial coordinate was used to diminish the computational effort for the uniform finite-difference grid solution of the coupled-channel equations. The derived nonadiabatic $A--b$ wave functions were used to evaluate the $A\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Sigma}^{+}--b\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{3}\ensuremath{\Pi}--D\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Pi}$, $a\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{3}\ensuremath{\Sigma}^{+}$, $X\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Sigma}^{+}$ rovibronic transition probabilities. The relative intensity distributions predicted for the $D\ensuremath{\rightarrow}A--b$ and $A--b\ensuremath{\rightarrow}X$ LIF progressions agree with their experimental counterparts within the accuracy of the measurements. The calculated $A--b--a$, $X$ transition probabilities were applied for simulation of the stimulated Raman $a\ensuremath{\rightarrow}A--b\ensuremath{\rightarrow}X$ processes, which can lead to efficient formation of ultracold NaRb molecules in the ground level ${v}_{X}=0$; ${J}_{X}=0$.
