Kosterlitz-Thouless phase in systems of one-dimensional strongly interacting fermions

V. V. Petrov

We present the ground state wave functions for systems of one-dimensional interacting fermions. It is shown that these systems undergo phase transitions similar to the Kosterlitz-Thouless one independently of the interaction details. In the limit of an infinitely strong interaction the phase transition turns into the usual second order phase transition in a chiral phase. The temperature of the phase transition is calculated.

BKT phase in systems of spinless strongly interacting one-dimensional fermions

V. V. Afonin, Victor Yu. Petrov

We present the ground-state wavefunctions for a system of spinless one-dimensional fermions in the limit of an infinitely strong interaction, and we demonstrate explicitly that the system symmetry is lower than the original symmetry of the Hamiltonian. As a result, the system in this limit undergoes a second-order phase transition into a phase with finite density of chiral pairs. The phase transforms continuously into a Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) phase if the interaction in the model decreases. Therefore, just the BKT phase is realized in nature. The temperature of the smearing phase transition is calculated.

A continuous line of Berezinskii–Kosterlitz–Thouless phase transition points and the golden ratio point in the three-component fermion ladder

Fei-Jie Huang, Qi-Hui Chen, Yong-Ping Fu +1 more

The realization of the three-component fermion ladder is feasible with current experimental techniques. However, due to complicated interactions among multi-components, theoretical explorations of the system are limited. In this study, we use the bosonization approach to investigate the three-component fermion ladder. We find that the interaction between the third component and the other two alters the system's kinetic structure, giving rise to a continuous line of Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition points in the parameter space and thereby yielding a richer structure of Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transitions. We identify a special point, corresponding to the golden ratio under specific approximations, which marks the crossover between weak and strong interaction regimes. This study enhances understanding of the intricate dynamics governing the phase transitions in the three-component fermion ladder and paves the way for future research on one-dimensional multi-component fermion systems.
