Abstract

We investigate the critical behaviors of the Bell nonlocality, which are measured by the Bell-function values, in conventional and topological quantum-phase transitions. First, by using the quantum-renormalization-group method, we show that the Bell function value of a three-qubit Bell inequality in the anisotropic spin-$1/2$ $XY$ model exhibits singular behaviors at the critical point. Moreover, for topological quantum-phase transitions, we find that the first-order derivative of the Bell-function value of the well-known Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality in the Kitaev-Castelnovo-Chamon model behaves singularly at the topological-phase-transition point. Our results have established a link between quantum nonlocality and phase transitions.

Bell Function Values Approach to Topological Quantum Phase Transitions

Dong-Ling Deng, Chunfeng Wu, Jing‐Ling Chen +3 more

We investigate the relation between Bell function values (BFV) of the reduced density matrix and the topological quantum phase transitions in the Kitaev-Castelnovo-Chamon model. % [Phys. Rev. B \textbf{77}, %054433 (2008)]. We find that the first order derivative of BFV exhibits singular behavior at the critical point and we propose that it can serve as a good and convenient marker for the transition point. More interestingly, the value of the critical point can be analytically obtained in this approach. Since the BFV serves as a measure of nonlocality when it is greater than the classical bound of the correlation functions, our work has established a link between quantum nonlocality and phase transitions.

Performance of various correlation measures in quantum phase transitions using the quantum renormalization-group method

Yao Yao, Hong-Wei Li, Chun-Mei Zhang +4 more

We have investigated the quantum phase transition employing the quantum renormalization-group method while, in most of the previous literature, entanglement (concurrence) has been barely demonstrated. However, it is now well known that entanglement is not the only signature of quantum correlations and a variety of computable measures have been developed to characterize quantum correlations in the composite systems. As an illustration, two cases are elaborated: a one-dimensional anisotropic (i) $XXZ$ model and (ii) an $XY$ model, with various measures of quantum correlations, including quantum discord, geometric discord, measurement-induced disturbance, measurement-induced nonlocality, and violation of Bell inequalities [e.g., Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality]. We have proved that all of these correlation measures can effectively detect the quantum critical points associated with quantum phase transitions after several iterations of the renormalization in both cases. Nonetheless, it is shown that some of their dynamical behaviors are not totally similar with entanglement and, even when concurrence vanishes, there still exists some kind of quantum correlation which is not captured by entanglement. Intriguingly, CHSH inequality can never be violated in the whole iteration procedure, which indicates that block-block entanglement cannot revealed by the CHSH inequality. Moreover, the nonanalytic and scaling behaviors of Bell violation have also been discussed in detail. As a by-product, we verify that measurement-induced disturbance is exactly equal to the quantum discord measured by ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{z}$ for general $\mathsf{X}$-structured states.

Exotic phase diagram of a topological quantum system

Xiaofeng Shi, Yan Chen, J. Q. You

We study the quantum phase transitions (QPTs) in the Kitaev spin model on a triangle-honeycomb lattice. In addition to the ordinary topological QPTs between Abelian and non-Abelian phases, we find new QPTs which can occur between two phases belonging to the same topological class, namely, either two non-Abelian phases with the same Chern number or two Abelian phases with the same Chern number. Such QPTs result from the singular behaviors of the nonlocal spin-spin correlation functions at the critical points.

Nonlocality of mixtures of the ground and first excited states within J 1 − J 2 Heisenberg model

Jia Bao, Longhui Shen, Hongying Liu +2 more

We investigate both bipartite and multipartite nonlocality in theJ1-J2Heisenberg model. Bipartite nonlocality is measured by the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality, while multipartite nonlocality is explored through Bell-type inequalities. Our findings reveal that neither ground-state nor full thermal-state nonlocality reliably characterizes quantum phase transitions (QPTs). However, we uncover that the mixed-state nonlocality of the ground and first excited states exhibits distinctive characteristics applicable to both bipartite and multipartite scenarios. We also demonstrate how mixed-state quantum correlation behaviors depend on varying temperature regimes. In the bipartite case, we observe a phenomenon known as 'correlation reversal' with increasing temperature, a previously unreported occurrence in other models. For the multipartite case, the ability to signify phase transitions is significantly enhanced as the temperature rises. Furthermore, we discover a linear scaling effect that provides valuable insights for extrapolating QPTs in the thermodynamic limit asN→∞. Additionally, we identify the critical temperature at which mixed-state nonlocality becomes a reliable indicator of phase transitions.

Study of quantum nonlocality by CHSH function and its extension in disordered fermions

Yoshihito Kuno

Quantum nonlocality is an important concept in quantum physics. In this work, we study the quantum nonlocality in a fermion many-body system under quasi-periodic disorders. The Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality is systematically investigated, which quantifies quantum nonlocality between two sites. We find particular behaviors of the quantifiers of quantum nonlocality around the extended and critical phase transitions in the system and further that the CHSH inequality is not broken in the globally averaged picture of the maximum value of the quantum nonlocality, but the violation probability of the CHSH inequality for two site pairs in the system becomes sufficiently finite in the critical phase and on a critical phase boundary. Further, we investigate an extension of the CHSH inequality, Mermin-Klyshko-Svetlichny (MKS) polynomials, which can characterize multipartite quantum nonlocality. We also find a similar behavior to the case of CHSH inequality. In particular, in the critical regime and on a transition point, the adjacent three-qubit MKS polynomial in a portion of the system exhibits a quantum nonlocal violation regime with a finite probability in the critical phase.

Entanglement and quantum phase transition in the one-dimensional anisotropic XY model

Fu-Wu Ma, Sheng-Xin Liu, Xiang-Mu Kong

In this paper the entanglement and quantum phase transition of the anisotropic spin-$1/2$ $\mathit{XY}$ model are studied by using the quantum renormalization-group method. By solving the renormalization equations, we get the trivial and nontrivial fixed points, which correspond to the phase of the system and the critical point, respectively. The concurrence between two blocks are calculated and it is found that when the number of iterations of the renormalization tends to infinity, the concurrence develops two saturated values that are associated with two different phases, i.e., Ising-like and spin-fluid phases. We also investigate the first derivative of the concurrence and find that there exists nonanalytic behaviors at the quantum critical point, which are directly associated with the divergence of the correlation length. To gain further insight, the scaling behaviors of the system are analyzed and it is shown that the maximum value of the first derivative of the concurrence reaches infinity and the critical point is approached as the size of the system increases.
