Quantum control in two-dimensional Fourier-transform spectroscopy

Jongseok Lim, Han-gyeol Lee, Sangkyung Lee +1 more

We present a method that harnesses coherent control capability to two-dimensional Fourier-transform optical spectroscopy. For this, three ultrashort laser pulses are individually shaped to prepare and control the quantum interference involved in two-photon interexcited-state transitions of a $\mathsf{V}$-type quantum system. In experiments performed with atomic rubidium, quantum control for the enhancement and reduction of the 5$P$${}_{1/2}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}$ 5$P$${}_{3/2}$ transition was successfully tested in which the engineered transitions were distinguishably extracted in the presence of dominant one-photon transitions.

Two-quantum 2D Fourier transform optical spectroscopy is used to separate the contributions of dipole-dipole interactions to the overall nonlinear optical response which isolates them from the atomic resonances in rubidium vapor that generated them.

-5D pathways, both simultaneously and at distinct spatial locations. Three different pulse-shaping solutions are introduced that combine amplitude shaping, which avoids direct intermediate resonances, and phase programming, which enables the remaining spectral components to be coherently interfered through the targeted transition pathways. Experiments were performed with a room-temperature vapor cell, and the results agree well with theoretical analysis.

Time-resolved two-dimensional spectroscopy of optically driven atomic sublevel coherences

Coherences between atomic substates are driven by a resonant interaction with light and transferred between individual sublevel transitions. We present an experimental scheme, based on two-dimensional Fourier-transform spectroscopy, that allows direct observation of this coherence transfer.
