Abstract

The influence of imperfect Faraday mirror on secret key rate of continuous variable quantum key distribution system in reverse reconciliation is considered with theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. It takes entanglement based scheme. It′s found that Faraday mirror′s imperfection reduces the secret key rate and transmission distance of system. The impact increases if the imperfection turns more serious.Besides it finds using great modulation variance can reduce the impact of Faraday mirror significantly.

Security analysis of continuous-variable quantum key distribution with imperfect Faraday mirror

Abstract For the practical Faraday mirror (FM) in a continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD) system there exists a rotation angle deviation that can lead to a loss of photon number when a light message passes through the polarization beam splitter. Here we employ the entanglement-based model to research the influence of the FM’s imperfection. Based on parameter estimation, the imperfection can introduce a loophole for Eve to obtain information. The secret key rate of the CVQKD will be impaired. Finally, a novel method is proposed to ensure system performance by compensating optical power, and we further study the relationship between the secret key rate and the modulation variance.

Security analysis of continuous variable quantum key distribution based on entangled states with biased correlations

Wenhui Zhang, Ruixin Li, Yajun Wang +3 more

Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) entangled states can significantly enhance the secret key rate and secure distance of continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD). In practical imperfections always exist in the preparation of two-mode squeezing (entangled states), which present an asymmetrical variance for the two quadratures. The imperfections induced by the bias effect of the entangled states are commonly treated as part of the untrusted channel to decrease the performance of the system. Here, we theoretically quantify the influence of bias effect on the secret key rate and secure distance, and propose a solution of generating unbiased entangled states protocol. The results demonstrated that the unbiased entangled states protocol guarantees the longest secure distance and highest key rate compared to that of coherent and biased entangled states.

Performance analysis of practical continuous-variable quantum key distribution systems with weak randomness

Yi Zheng, Peng Huang, Jinye Peng +2 more

Abstract Ideal randomness is one of most important conditions for the implementation of continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD). However, imperfect randomness may exist in a practical CVQKD system due to imperfections in Gaussian modulation or in random-number generators. Here we propose a weak randomness attack model in practical CVQKD systems to investigate the practical performance of the systems with imperfect randomness, where the prepared coherent states based on nonrandom state modulation are assumed to be known by Eve. Then, we perform parameter estimation and calculate the secret key rate of the system based on the proposed attack model. The simulation results demonstrate that a small imperfect randomness can dramatically reduce the secret key rate of the system, which may seriously limit the practical performance of the system. Therefore, true random numbers and perfect Gaussian modulation are key for practical CVQKD systems.

Analysis of imperfections in practical continuous-variable quantum key distribution

Paul Jouguet, Sébastien Kunz-Jacques, Eleni Diamanti +1 more

As quantum key distribution becomes a mature technology, it appears clearly that some assumptions made in the security proofs cannot be justified in practical implementations. This might open the door to possible side-channel attacks. We examine several discrepancies between theoretical models and experimental setups in the case of continuous-variable quantum key distribution. We study in particular the impact of an imperfect modulation on the security of Gaussian protocols and show that approximating the theoretical Gaussian modulation with a discrete one is sufficient in practice. We also address the issue of properly calibrating the detection setup and in particular the value of the shot noise. Finally, we consider the influence of phase noise in the preparation stage of the protocol and argue that taking this noise into account can improve the secret key rate because this source of noise is not controlled by the eavesdropper.

Underwater continuous variable quantum key distribution scheme based on imperfect measurement basis choice

Xiao-Dong Wu, Duan Huang

Measurement basis choice is an essential step in the underwater continuous variable quantum key distribution system based on homodyne detection. However, in practice, finite bandwidth of analog-to-digital converter on the receiver’s side is limited, which can result in defects in the measurement basis choice. That is, the receiver cannot accurately modulate the corresponding phase angle on the phase modulator for measurement basis choice to implement homodyne detection. The imperfect measurement basis choice will introduce extra excess noise, which affects the security of underwater continuous variable quantum key distribution scheme. To solve this problem, we propose an underwater continuous variable quantum key distribution scheme based on imperfect measurement basis choice, and analyze the influence of imperfect measurement basis choice on the performance of underwater continuous variable quantum key distribution system in detail. The research results indicate that the extra excess noise introduced by imperfect measurement basis choice can reduce the secret key rate and maximum transmission distance of the underwater Gaussian modulated quantum key distribution, thus reducing the security of the system. In order to achieve reliable underwater continuous variable quantum key distribution, we quantitatively analyze the extra excess noise introduced by choosing the imperfect measurement basis and obtain its security limit. Besides, we also consider the influence of different seawater depths on the security limit of the proposed scheme, effectively solving the security risks caused by the imperfect measurement basis choice. Furthermore, for the proposed scheme, we consider not only its asymptotic security case but also its composable security case, and the performance curves obtained in the latter are tighter than that achieved in the former. The proposed scheme aims to promote the practical process of underwater continuous variable quantum key distribution system and provide theoretical guidance for accurately evaluating the water channel parameters in underwater communication of global quantum communication networks.

Secret Key Distillation for Continuous Variable Quantum Key Distribution against Gaussian Classical Eve

Yibo Zhao, Zheng‐Fu Han, Jin-jian Chen +2 more

The continuous variable quantum key distribution is expected to provide high secret key rate without single photon source and detector, while the lack of the effective key distillation method makes it unpractical under the high loss condition. Here we present a single-bit-reverse-reconciliation protocol against Gaussian classical Eve, which can distill the secret key through practical imperfect error correction with high efficiency. The simulation results show that this protocol can distill secret keys even when the transmission fibre is longer than 150 km, which may make the continuous variable scheme to outvie the single photon one.
